Fantastic Four: First Steps Box Office Speeds Past The Worst Wolverine Movie On Highest-Grossing Chart

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is rising up a major box office chart. The new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was helmed by franchise alumnus Matt Shakman (WandaVision). The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast includes Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch.

After debuting with $117.6 million at the domestic box office, marking the best MCU debut of the year, The Fantastic Four: First Steps cratered with a 66% drop during its sophomore weekend. However, it has still topped the domestic chart for two consecutive weekends so far.

Per The Numbers, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has now reached a worldwide box office total of $378.3 million in the middle of its second full week in theaters. This is composed of a $208 million cumulative domestic gross and an additional $170.3 million from international markets.

This total has pushed the movie up the chart of the all-time highest-grossing superhero movies worldwide, surpᴀssing the $374.8 million gross of the poorly received 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which has 37% from critics and 58% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes) to land at No. 70.

What This Means For The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Although the Fantastic Four: First Steps box office has had some severe ups and downs during its first few weeks in theaters, it has already outgrossed a number of other major superhero movies on the chart. This includes Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.6 million), Batman Begins ($356.8 million), and Batman Forever ($336.7 million).

Additionally, it has already become the highest-grossing movie to adapt the Fantastic Four comics to the big screen, outpacing the 2005 movie ($333.1 million), its sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer ($289.5 million), and the 2015 version ($167.9 million).

Our Take On The Fantastic Four: First Steps Milestone

Ultimately, in spite of its severe slowdown and the fact that it is poised to fall to No. 3 behind Freakier Friday and Weapons during its third weekend in theaters, 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps is almost certain to continue climbing up the all-time superhero movie chart.

At the time of writing, the current trajectory of The Fantastic Four: First Steps could see it earning between $520 and $570 million by the end of its run.

If it has less severe drops from its third weekend on, and hits the upper end of that range, it could climb quite a few places up the chart, landing at No. 51 by surpᴀssing movies such as Thor, Ant-Man, and X-Men: Apocalypse.

However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps ultimately seems unlikely to secure a place in the Top 50. The current No. 50 is 2025’s Superman, but once it rises as its ongoing theatrical run continues, the movie to beat will be 2008’s Iron Man, which grossed $584.9 million.
