Jason Statham’s upcoming action thriller Mutiny has been delayed. Directed by Jean-Francois Richet, the movie stars Statham as Cole Reed, an employee who is set up to take the fall for his boss’s murder. With a script from Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, the Beekeeper star is joined by Annabelle Wallis, Roland Moller, Jason Wong, Ben Catwright, and many others.

Earlier this year, Lionsgate announced that Mutiny would arrive on Jan. 9, 2025, in the week following Universal’s M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te.

However, now, according to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Gerard Butler’s Greenland 2: Migration has replaced Mutiny for the Jan. 9 slot, while Statham’s new action thriller is eyeing a summer release. Presently, the movie doesn’t have a date attached to it. It’s also unclear what the reason is behind the delay.

What This Means For Mutiny

Mutiny began production in September 2024 and wrapped in November, and has been in post-production since the beginning of this year. Because the previous release date was announced when the movie was already in post-production, the shift is likely more strategic. Summer months are generally reserved for highly anticipated тιтles with serious box office potential.

So far, taking advantage of holidays and increased leisure time among moviegoers, the summer of 2026 is packed with major releases, including Avengers: Doomsday (May 1), The Mandalorian and Grogu (May 22), Scary Movie 6 (June 12), Toy Story 5 (June 19), Supergirl: World of Tomorrow (June 26), The Odyssey (July 17), and Spider-Man 4 (July 24).

While it’s unclear exactly when Mutiny will arrive, the upcoming slate will likely draw bigger crowds into the movie theaters, which could potentially give the movie a better chance at box office success, despite the obvious compeтιтion.

Our Take On Mutiny’s Delay

Summer 2026 is both a window for opportunities and a highly compeтιтive space for the new Jason Statham action thriller. While Beekeeper, released in January 2024, was a box-office smash hit that made $162.6 million against a reported $40 million budget, the star’s latter movie, A Working Man, released in March 2025, only grossed a modest $88 million.

Mutiny‘s previous Jan. 9 release date was also announced before A Working Man‘s release. While the 2025 action movie isn’t considered a flop or a box-office disappointment, it did show a potential decline in profits if everything stayed the same. While Statham’s action movies have seen strong streaming numbers as well as box office potential, removing the film from a slower month sounds like the right choice.
