Smash Hit Fantasy Movie’s Soundtrack Keeps One Song In Billboard’s Top 10 (While Another Moves Up)

KPop Demon Hunters is still showing its dominance on the Billboard Top 10 chart. The animated film was released to Netflix on June 20 of this year. Ever since, the movie has become a mᴀssive hit on the platform. Even today, August 5, is the no. 1 movie on the platform in the United States.

In addition to its viewership success, KPop Demon Hunters has gotten extremely strong reviews. The movie holds a 97% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated animated movies of the year. ScreenRant‘s Ben Gibbons gave the movie 9 out of 10 stars, noting its emotional qualities and how it “juggles a lot of ideas with incredible results.”

As per Billboard, KPop Demon Hunters is having another successful week with two of its songs in the top 10. This includes “Golden” by HUNTR/X, which sits at no. 2 for a second consecutive week. “Golden” is also at the top of the list for streaming songs.

Another KPop Demon Hunters song managed to make it into the Billboard top 10 this week. This was the Saja Boys’ tune “Your Idol.” It had previously been at no. 12, but with increased streams, bound up to the no. 9 spot.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters

It is rare that songs from streaming movies make it into the Billboard top 10, let alone two from the same movie. “Golden” is ranked behind only the Alex Warren song “Ordinary,” which has gone viral on TikTok, YouTube, and other major platforms.

This is a good sign for KPop Demon Hunters when it comes to its award potential. It is a shoo-in for a Best Animated Feature nomination at this point, but this chart status also suggests that it has really strong chances for the Best Original Song nod, or even multiple. If people stay interested and aware of the music, the award chances will get better.

Animated movies do not typically get nominated for categories outside Animated Feature, but it does happen, and it is usually a good indicator of a win in the category. This is not unilaterally the case, but if the KPop Demon Hunters songs can maintain their popularity and get the movie Best Original Song nominations, its chances of taking home one or more Oscars will just increase.

This billboard trend is also great news for Netflix as it continues forward with this franchise. A recent report unveiled plans for KPop Demon Hunters sequels, revealing how much effort Netflix is now pouring into this IP. Its Billboard chart success only further proves how much of a hit this franchise can be, and this status could be elevated in subsequent films.
