Lilo & Sтιтch Streaming Date Revealed After $1B Box Office Run

The streaming release date has been revealed for 2025’s Lilo & Sтιтch. The hit movie is a Disney live-action remake of the classic 2002 animated picture of the same name, featuring the return of original Sтιтch voice actor Chris Sanders in the role of the classic fuzzy alien.

Lilo & Sтιтch was well-liked when it arrived in theaters, opening to an impressive $146 million, surpᴀssing the entire domestic gross of this year’s Snow White in just one weekend. The movie also got great reviews from critics, including ScreenRant‘s Mary Kᴀssel, who gave it 7 out of 10 stars.

After much waiting, Disney has officially revealed that the new Lilo & Sтιтch is set to release on Disney+ on Sept. 3, 2025:

Disney+ announced this through an adorable short video that showcases clips from the movie as well as sH๏τs of Sтιтch eating popcorn. The latter half of the video features the tune of the iconic track “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride.”

What Releasing On Streaming Means For Lilo & Sтιтch

Lilo & Sтιтch will finally be available on the platform for which it was originally intended. Back when the movie was in early development, the Hawaii-set adventure was going to be a straight-to-Disney+ release. Disney eventually pivoted in its approach, along with some other strategy changes.

The ultimate theatrical release of Lilo & Sтιтch paid off big time. The movie ended up making over $1.02 billion at the box office, becoming the first Hollywood movie this year to cross the coveted $1 billion mark. Currently, Lilo & Sтιтch is also the no. 2 highest-grossing movie of the year so far, second only to Ne Zha II.

This success meant that Lilo & Sтιтch was given a long window of theatrical exclusivity. The film maintained significant momentum in theaters, seeing success even weeks after its initial release and as it competed against other family movies.

Lilo & Sтιтch was then released on VOD on July 22, and the movie has gained further success already in digital sales. Now, audiences will have to wait an entire additional month for the movie to become available on streaming.

Lilo & Sтιтch is almost guaranteed to become a mega-hit on streaming. This is great news for the live-action franchise’s future, as Lilo & Sтιтch 2 is already in the works. If the remake does as well as it is capable of on streaming, it may generate more momentum going into its next installment, which could potentially top the first movie’s box office.
