Jason Momoa’s New Show With A 92% RT Score Proves How Badly Star Wars Failed Boba Fett

Jason Momoa’s new TV show, Chief of War, shows just how badly Star Wars failed Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett. Four years ago, Temuera Morrison starred as Boba Fett in his own TV show – and, unfortunately, it didn’t go well. The plotting, the pacing, and even the core idea seemed to struggle.

We haven’t seen Morrison in Star Wars since. Speaking at the Tampa Bay Comic Convention (via Collider), he openly admitted there’s nothing in the works right now.

“All of you need to send a fax, or a letter or an email to those powers that be at Lucasfilm. I’m sure they’d love to hear from everyone. Please give Daniel Logan and Temuera Morrison another chance and put them somewhere.”

The comment was tongue-in-cheek, but it seems all the more appropriate given Morrison is receiving praise for a very different TV show right now.

Jason Momoa’s Chief of War Shows How Great Morrison Really Is

Jason Momoa’s new Apple TV+ TV show is receiving rave reviews from critics, achieving an incredible 92% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes at time of writing. Based on true events, the show is based on the unification of Hawaii and tells a brutal and bloody story. Momoa’s performance is electrifying, showing his true range as an actor.

Momoa may raise the level, but the truly remarkable thing about Dog of War is that every other member of the cast rises to meet it. That includes Temuera Morrison, who plays the ruthless Chief Kahekili. Morrison’s performance is even more impressive given he had to learn the Hawaiian language for it.

Chief of War is a timely reminder just how incredible an actor Morrison really is, and it underscores how important it should be for Lucasfilm to get him back.

How Star Wars Could Fix Its Boba Fett Mistake

It’s still staggering to consider how badly Star Wars has failed Boba Fett. The Book of Boba Fett was principally an attempt to reposition the character for a new era, but it failed in part because it abandoned the classic archetypes too much (and partly because Lucasfilm lacked confidence, with the show morphing into The Mandalorian season 2.5).

That does not, however, mean that Boba Fett should be written out of Star Wars. There is a way forward, but it involves abandoning a strange Tatooine crime lord arc (which Lucasfilm never truly committed to) and returning to the classic Boba, who is out there kicking ᴀss and taking names.

Chief of War is a reminder that Lucasfilm would be foolish to waste Temuera Morrison’s potential.
