Marvel Confirmed Doctor Doom’s MCU Costume But Left Out One Big Reveal

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.Doctor Doom is the main villain of the next two Avengers movies, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has revealed his costume before they arrive, though there is still one question left to be answered. The MCU is known for giving characters their comics-accurate costumes sooner or later. Recently, one of the MCU’s best movies, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, was part of that.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine finally wore his yellow and blue costume from the comics after 24 years. In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the heroes wore a couple of their classic suits from the comics, showing how Marvel Studios is honoring its rich legacy of influential costumes with the MCU’s new movies. Now, Doctor Doom is next in line.

Marvel Has Confirmed Doctor Doom’s Design In The MCU’s Latest Movie

Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be the star of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, with the villain facing Fox’s original X-Men — they could finally get comics-accurate suits like Wolverine — the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and more superhero teams. When doing so, Doctor Doom will look like his classic self, as revealed by The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ post-credits scene.

After months of speculation, Downey’s Doctor Doom made his MCU debut in the Fantastic Four movie, as had been rumored. In doing so, Marvel Studios confirmed Doctor Doom’s MCU design, and I was thrilled by how comics-accurate the villain looks. While he was in the shadows, key details about the character’s costume were easy to spot.

Downey’s Doctor Doom will have the character’s classic mask and green cloak with a hood. Not much else can be seen, as the camera pans from behind as Sue Storm arrives to see Doctor Doom with her son, Franklin Richards. The tease is enough to raise excitement for Avengers: Doomsday, but I’m still waiting for a key Doctor Doom confirmation.

The MCU Still Has To Answer The Biggest Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom Design Question

While we now have the first look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, the most important question about the character’s design, regarding whether Victor von Doom’s face will be scarred in the MCU, has yet to be answered. One of my biggest fears is that Doctor Doom will not have the scars and will take his mask off often.

The latter has already happened in The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ ending tease, as Downey’s Doctor Doom took off his mask to show Franklin Richards his face. However, due to the shadows, we never see if his face is scarred or not.

The scars are crucial to who Doom is as a character, so I hope Marvel keeps them. The shadows could have been used to make an impactful reveal later in the MCU, perhaps with a huge Doctor Doom moment in Avengers: Doomsday.
