Netflix’s Record-Breaking Movie Is Basically The New Frozen

Frozen is one of Disney’s biggest hits of all time, so it’s a pretty big deal that Netflix is comparing its new film to the hit musical franchise. With just two films, the Frozen franchise has made $2.77 billion at the box office and has had a mᴀssive cultural impact, cementing it as one of Disney’s most iconic franchises.

While Disney is known for producing hit new IP after hit new IP, the same can’t be said for Netflix’s animated output. Plenty of animation companies, like Sony Pictures Animation and DreamWorks, have released movies straight to the streaming service. However, they often aren’t nearly as impactful as theatrical animated movies.

Luckily, this is all changing with a recent Netflix animated release. This 2025 film has set major records for Netflix, gotten lots of awards buzz, and built up a sizable fanbase. With talk of sequels and more in the works, it is understandable why it is being called Netflix’s Frozen.

Netflix Is Already Calling KPop Demon Hunters Their Frozen

KPop Demon Hunters is one of Netflix’s biggest animated hits ever, and the company knows it. According to sources, Netflix is internally comparing the success of KPop Demon Hunters to that of Frozen. The streaming service sees the potential for this movie to be as big as the Disney Princess franchises, which is a bold statement.

However, the claim is backed up by data. The film has consistently been on Netflix’s Top 10 lists since its release, and it is now Netflix’s most-watched original animated film of all time. The movie has received critical acclaim and is considered one of the best animated movies of the year.

The soundtrack of KPop Demon Hunters is another reason why it has been compared to Frozen so much. “Your Idol” reached No. 2 on Spotify’s U.S. rankings on July 3, and “Golden” has reached No. 3 among female K-pop groups. The soundtrack has made waves on music streaming services, paralleling the success of Frozen.

Netflix Is Planning For More KPop Demon Hunters

Netflix has major plans for KPop Demon Hunters‘ future, hoping to expand it into a mᴀssive franchise. First, two animated sequels are in the works, turning the series into a trilogy. Netflix is also interested in a live-action version of the film, something that even Frozen hasn’t done yet.

On top of that, Netflix is looking into TV and stage musical adaptations of KPop Demon Hunters. These plans show that Netflix clearly recognizes that KPop Demon Hunters has a mᴀssive fan base, and the series is far from over.
