At long last, Star Wars: Visions season 3 (and an upcoming spinoff) will show us the war between the Jedi and the Sith. The Sith Empire fell a thousand years before the Skywalker saga, and Darth Bane subsequently reinvented them. Never again would there be armies of Sith, not after the Rule of Two.
Viewers tend to dismiss the Sith of the past, ᴀssuming Darth Bane’s iteration was the only truly successful one. But there were many previous occasions when the Jedi were brought to the brink of destruction; in fact, Order 66 wasn’t even the first Jedi Purge. Now, finally, Star Wars may be about to show true war between Jedi and Sith.
The Jedi Are Returning In The Star Wars: Visions Galaxy
Star Wars: Visions is a unique anthology series, allowing different animation houses to play in George Lucas’ sandbox. One of these, “The Ninth Jedi,” introduced viewers to a galaxy where the Jedi had been rendered almost extinct. Created by Production IG and written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama, this timeline is set to return.
In “The Night Jedi” timeline, Kara Zhima, daughter of a famous swordsmith, joined the Jedi Order under Master Margrave Juro. She’s already crossed blades with the Sith, and she’s sure to do so again; for she lives in an age where everyone who chooses the light must stand against the darkness. She’s headed for outright war.
This story will be told in Star Wars: Visions season 3, and it will continue in a spinoff miniseries next year.
How Will The Light Side Prevail?
Oddly enough, there’s a sense in which a Sith Empire is surely harder to defeat than the one established by Palpatine. The Jedi only needed to defeat (or redeem) two Sith to beat them in Luke Skywalker’s time, and the Empire collapsed over the next 12 months, destroyed at the Battle of Jakku.
A Sith Empire is a different prospect, though. The dark side is diffuse, diluted, scattered across every star-system rather than concentrated in just two individuals. The light of the Jedi would surely need to shine that much brighter to cast aside the shadows of the Sith.
“The Ninth Jedi” stories now promise to tell us a story we’ve only ever dreamed of seeing before now. Viewers have always wanted to see vast armies of Jedi and Sith clashing – that’s one reason why Knights of the Old Republic is so iconic – and that is what we are finally going to get.
It’s about time.
Star Wars: Visions season 3 comes out October 29.
