James Gunn sets the record straight regarding who the DC villain will be in The Batman 2. After taking on The Riddler in 2022’s The Batman, Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight will be facing new threats in The Batman 2 story, as Matt Reeves is getting ready to expand his Elseworlds-based franchise.

To this point, no new actors have joined The Batman 2 cast at the time of this article’s publication, as specific details on the new storyline for the highly anticipated sequel have been kept under wraps. However, that is not stopping rumors from emerging online about who may be Batman’s next enemy in Reeves’ universe.

As Gunn uses his social media presence to sometimes address when a report is false, DC fans regularly ask him about various rumors. A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads if there is any truth to the DC Comics villain Hush being in The Batman 2. However, it didn’t take long for Gunn to address the fan’s response, as he shared the following:

Gunn stated in his response to the fan, “Again everything you’ve heard is a total guess or made up.” The Batman 2, which was written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is set to start principal pH๏τography at the end of 2025, with a release date set for October 1, 2027.

When it comes to The Batman 2 villain rumors—or any DC Studios project for that matter—unless Gunn or the studios confirm it themselves, any reports about a DC movie or TV show should be taken with a mᴀssive grain of salt. Reeves has never even said anything about Hush being in The Batman 2, which also dispels any rumors.

While Hush could make for a great antagonist in The Batman universe, it doesn’t appear to be the direction for the time being. Whether or not that means Hush could show up in a future installment after The Batman 2 remains to be seen, but he would definitely fit the tone of Reeves’ franchise.

With Gunn making a proper statement about Hush appearing in The Batman 2 being made up or a guess, time will tell which villain from Bruce Wayne’s rogue’s gallery they will use in the 2027 installment. There have been theories that Barry Keoghan’s Joker will be the central antagonist, or potentially a bigger role for Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb after The Penguin TV show.

Since The Batman 2 is currently in pre-production, the casting process is most likely underway at this point, which means there are bound to be announcements throughout the fall. Hopefully, before 2025 is over, the world will ideally know who will be the villain in The Batman 2.
