August 16 Is A Great Day For Fast & Furious Fans

August 16 will be a very good day for the Fast & Furious franchise. The sprawling action movie franchise had humble beginnings, kicking off with the 2001 action-crime racing movie The Fast and the Furious. Since then, the movies have featured increasingly high-octane stunts, including cars parachuting from a cargo plane.

The franchise, which will be continuing with the upcoming Fast 11, boasts an ever-expanding star-studded ensemble cast, featuring well-known actors including Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Gal Gadot, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena, Jason Momoa, Sung Kang, Jordana Brewster, and Kurt Russell.

Netflix has now announced via an Instagram post that seven of the Fast & Furious movies will be coming to the streaming platform on August 16. This includes the first three movies (The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Tokyo Drift) as well as Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, and the spinoff movie Hobbs & Shaw.

There are only four Fast & Furious movies that are not coming to Netflix on August 16, namely the three most recent installments in the flagship franchise (The Fate of the Furious, F9, and Fast X) as well as the fourth movie, Fast & Furious. See Netflix’s announcement post below:

What This Means For The Fast & Furious Franchise

The fact that the majority of the Fast & Furious franchise will be streaming on Netflix makes the movies more accessible at home than ever before, because Netflix is the streaming service with the most subscribers worldwide.

Additionally, this move consolidates the movies on streaming more than they have been previously. At the time of writing, they are scattered on a variety of different services, including Prime Video, HBO Max, YouTube TV, and Starz.

While the latter services will be retaining their licenses for the time being, the Prime Video тιтles are moving to Netflix alongside Hobbs & Shaw, which is not currently available on subscription streaming, and Furious 7, which is only available on the pricy streamer Fubo at the time of writing.

Below, see a breakdown of the current streaming homes of the Fast & Furious movies, and where they will be as of August 16:

After the move to Netflix, the only one of the Fast & Furious movies that will not be available on subscription streaming in any form is the eighth installment, The Fate of the Furious. It remains to be seen if that тιтle will find a new streaming home sooner rather than later.

Our Take On The Fast & Furious Streaming Update

While this move does not put the entire franchise together on a single platform, such a thing would have been highly unusual for a franchise that is so sprawling and has lasted for more than 20 years, making licensing particularly complicated.

The fact that the majority of the Fast & Furious movies are coming to Netflix is still a major coup for the streamer, especially considering the fact that viewership may increase as production ramps up on the next installment.
