During Superman‘s final sequence, Superman smiles as he watches his child self play with Jonathan and Martha Kent. By this point, the DCU’s Man of Steel is more Clark Kent than he is Kal El.

David Corenswet’s DCU Superman is an especially selfless iteration of the hero. He goes out of his way to save and protect every single life on the battlefield, including a single squirrel. Even when the public unfairly turns against him, Corenswet’s Superman chooses not to engage in unnecessary conflict and continues to defend the innocent.

After learning that the Els sent him to conquer the Earth, Superman decides to distance himself from his Kryptonian heritage and doubles down on his Kansas roots. David Corenswet’s Superman will likely be even more humble and kind in future sequels and DCU appearances. This may be reflected both in his demeanor and in his physical appearance.

The “S” would be clean, iconic, and free from the narrative gymnastics often used to explain superhero branding in modern adaptations.

In a simple interpretation, the “S” wouldn’t be just a letter worn because it happens to match his name, as in the Golden and Silver Age comics. Instead, it would represent a conscious declaration of Superman’s values in his adopted world. The letter takes on a far greater weight than simply being a carryover from comic book tradition.

Drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics, Craig Gillespie’s upcoming Supergirl will likely explore Kara Zor‑El’s time as a survivor of Krypton’s destruction. Kara has spent much longer dealing with the aftermath of Krypton’s downfall than Clark did. Hence, Supergirl’s idenтιтy is deeply tied to her planet’s culture, traditions, and symbols.

While David Corenswet’s Superman might feel comfortable swapping his Kryptonian crest for a simple earthly “S,” Kara would see that change as abandoning an important part of their heritage. In her eyes, the “S” shape might be one of her last tangible links to a lost world. Besides keeping the original symbol, Supergirl could fight Superman over his decision to leave Krypton’s imagery behind.
