Superman is climbing a major box office chart. The superhero movie, which is the latest тιтle to feature the iconic DC Comics character, was written and directed by James Gunn and debuted with a $125 million opening weekend, which it followed by quickly flying past the $500 million milestone worldwide by the end of its third full week in theaters.

2025’s Superman is the first installment in the newly rebranded DC Universe (DCU), which includes some elements of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) but pushes the franchise in a different creative direction that includes David Corenswet taking over the role of Superman from Henry Cavill.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, Superman is projected to earn a 3-day gross of $14 million at the domestic box office by the end of its fourth weekend in theaters. This will bring the movie’s cumulative domestic total to $316.3 million.

That total sees Superman climbing the chart of the highest-grossing domestic releases from Warner Bros., soaring past The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ($303 million domestic) to become their 15th highest-grossing movie of all time in North America.

What This Means For Superman

It remains to be seen how much higher the Superman box office can climb by the end of its run in North America. However, it only needs to make an additional $18.8 million in order to surpᴀss the domestic gross of the DCEU movie Aquaman ($335.1 million) in order to break into the all-time Top 10 for Warner Bros.

Superman is only projected to have a week-on-week drop of 44% during its fourth weekend, so if it has a similar drop during its fifth, it could potentially earn an additional $7.8 million by next Sunday.

While this total closes the gap between itself and Aquaman by less than half, if Superman maintains a slow and steady pace throughout August, it should have no trouble hitting the Top 10.

This is underscored by the fact that the movie marketplace is going to be relatively quiet in August, with few impending compeтιтors. Nobody 2 and The Toxic Avenger are the only тιтles that seem like they’re seeking a similar demographic, so the James Gunn movie should have a slow and steady climb.

It is very good for Superman to have a strong standing among other Warner Bros. тιтles, because the story sets up a number of other upcoming DCU movies. The future of the newest iteration of the company’s superhero franchise depends on the movie reaching a wide audience and engaging them enough to want to experience further adventures in this universe.
