My Oxford Year is the latest Netflix romantic comedy, and the film has is backed by an excellent cast of strong characters. Featuring the return of one of Netflix’s biggest stars in Sofia Carson, the new film tells the story of Anna, a young American woman who journeys off to England to study Victorian poetry at Oxford University.
This was supposed to be a temporary residency for Anna, who has a job lined up at Goldman Sachs, but things become complicated when she meets Jamie. Already one of the best romantic comedies on Netflix, the movie captures the complexities of their sweet and spicy relationship against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful schools in the world.
Based on the debut novel by Julia Whelan, My Oxford Year was a highly anticipated movie releasing in August 2025. This is due in part to the strong writing by Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne, as well as the great direction by Iain Morris. What stands out on screen, however, is the excellent cast of charismatic characters.
