Jason Statham’s Action-Packed $529M Movie Re-Emerges On Streaming Charts 7 Years Later

Jason Statham continues his streaming chart dominance, as his $529 million smash-hit action movie from seven years ago takes a bite of out of the HBO Max top 10.

Statham’s status as a streaming superstar was amply demonstrated in late May 2025 when three of his movies – A Working Man, Wrath of Man and The Beekeeper – all hit the Prime Video top 10 at the same time.

The star’s next feature film, an action-thriller тιтled Mutiny, doesn’t release until 2026. In the meantime, there is no shortage of Statham content online for fans to stream, including one of his biggest-ever hits.

The Meg Re-Emerges On HBO Max’s Top Ten Streaming Chart

It Comes In At Number Six

Seven years after chewing up the compeтιтion in the late summer of 2018, Statham’s giant-shark action movie The Meg has re-surfaced as a top-ten performer on HBO Max. Made for between $130 million and $178 million, the film grossed $529 million worldwide upon its release, spawning a 2023 sequel.

The Meg received a Razzy nomination for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.

Statham’s battle with a prehistoric mega-shark continues delivering thrills in 2025, hitting number six on HBO Max’s streaming top 10 for August 1. Subscribers to the service may just be in the mood for the ever-popular aquatic predators, as the Shark Week documentary Black Mako of the Abyss is also in the top 10.

Our Take On The Meg Being A Hit On Streaming

It’s A Perfect Home Watch

Jason Statham in a Submarine in Meg 2 The Trench

The legacy of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws has been a big topic of conversation as the classic film celebrates its 50th anniversary. There may indeed be no better proof of that film’s enduring influence than The Meg, whose $529 million box office haul proved that killer sharks can still bring in movie audiences.

The Meg may not be one of the classic movie thrillers of all-time, but what it lacks in old-school suspense, it makes up for in sheer over-the-top action spectacle. The film boasts an ensemble cast, with Statham’s effortlessly commanding presence holding down the center.

Critics may not have bought into what The Meg was selling (it sits at 47% on Rotten Tomatoes) but audiences found plenty to enjoy. Reviewers were even more down on the movie’s sequel, Meg 2: The Trench (it’s at 27% on RT), but there was still money to be made from the franchise, as the follow-up grossed $397 million worldwide.

Statham may indeed be finished with The Meg as a franchise, as he has recently focused on more traditional action-star roles, but his two-film foray into the shark movie genre nevertheless represents a fun, if temporary, detour.

The Meg was a perfect time-wasting action vehicle when it came out in 2018, and its continued streaming success proves that it remains so in 2025, helping Statham build on his legacy as one of the biggest streaming stars of the moment.
