Social Network 2 Casting Update Reveals 2 Award-Winning Stars For Key Roles

The Social Network 2 is seeing casting rumors which reveal two award-winning stars as potentials for key roles. 2010’s The Social Network, which follows the creation of Facebook, was a major critical and commercial success when it was released. The biographical drama stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, and Armie Hammer.

In June 2025, The Social Network 2 was confirmed to be in development with Aaron Sorkin returning as writer. The movie, тιтled The Social Network Part II, will be based on the Wall Street Journal series of articles, The Facebook Files, acting as a follow-up to the original $224.9 million Best Picture nominee. Interestingly, Sorkin will direct the sequel, replacing David Fincher.

Now, in a report via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, sources say Sorkin’s top choices to star in The Social Network II are Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White. As the plot follows articles by Jeff Horowitz, exposing the inner workings and harms caused by Facebook, White could hypothetically play Horowitz, with Madison portraying the whistleblower.

Previously, Sorkin stated that the events of January 6, 2021, were a source of inspiration for a potential sequel, believing Facebook played a part. However, it has been stressed that The Social Network II won’t solely focus on this event, but rather Facebook’s wider effect. Furthermore, no formal offers have been made to White or Madison.

What This Casting News Means For The Social Network 2

A Newer Cast Works For A Newer Story

Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network

Following the announcement of its development, many wondered if the original actors would return to The Social Network II. However, with Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White being eyed for key roles, it looks like the sequel may stray away from repeats. That being said, it would make sense for Jesse Eisenberg to return as Mark Zuckerberg.

However, while The Facebook Files addressed Facebook’s problems, they didn’t implicate Zuckerberg directly. The Social Network focuses on the origins of Facebook and the conflicts behind its creation, whereas the sequel shifts towards examining the broader implications of Facebook’s influence. Therefore, the modern take would work well with a newer cast, and both Madison and White are excellent choices.

Our Take On The Social Network 2’s Casting Rumors

Madison & White Have Proven Themselves In Dramatic Roles

The potential casting of Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White is currently just a rumor, as no formal offers have been made to either actor yet. However, their involvement is an exciting prospect. Madison recently won the Best Lead Actress Oscar for Anora, making history as the first member of Generation Z to win an acting Oscar.

Jeremy Allen White is playing Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, which will be released on Oct. 24, 2025.

Similarly, White has received wide acclaim for his role in the comedy-drama series The Bear, receiving three Golden Globes and two Emmy Awards. Therefore, both actors have proven their worth in recent years, especially in dramatic roles, which only makes their possible involvement in The Social Network II more intriguing. Hopefully, we will see official casting announcements soon.
