Fantastic Four: First Steps Box Office Milestone Brings MCU Movie Close To Breaking Huge Record

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is drawing close to a major box office record. The new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing, who are the four members of the тιтular superhero team.

First Steps is the fifth Fantastic Four movie, though it is only the fourth to come to theaters. Previous movies adapting the comics include an unreleased Roger Corman-produced feature from 1994, pirated copies of which have made it something of a cult classic.

This was followed by 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer, both of which starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. Another adaptation was mounted in 2015, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell.

Per The Numbers, The Fantastic Four: First Steps brought in $8.6 million at the domestic box office on Wednesday, July 30, which was its sixth full day in theaters. This brought the superhero movie’s cumulative domestic total to $150.9 million, making it the 11th movie of 2025 to pᴀss the $150 million domestic milestone.

By hitting this milestone, the movie has also drawn incredibly close to smashing an all-time record for the Fantastic Four franchise. It is roughly $4 million away from surpᴀssing the $154.7 million domestic gross of the 2005 installment to become the highest-grossing Fantastic Four movie in North America.

What This Means For The Fantastic Four: First Steps

It Should Easily Break More Franchise Records

While it is only a matter of time before 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps becomes the highest-grossing installment of the franchise at the domestic box office, it still has a way to climb if it hopes to become the highest-grossing worldwide.

At the time of writing, it has only earned $249.9 million worldwide, a total that sees it falling behind both the 2005 installment ($333.1 million) and Rise of the Silver Surfer ($289.5 million). This means it would have to earn another $83.2 million in order to become the highest-grossing installment in general.

Below, see a breakdown of the domestic and global box office performance of all four movies:

тιтle

Domestic B.O.

Global B.O.

Fantastic Four (2005)

$154.7 million

$333.1 million

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

$131.9 million

$289.5 million

Fantastic Four (2015)

$56.1 million

$167.8 million

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)

$150.9 million

$249.9 million

Considering the fact that Box Office Theory‘s projections estimate that First Steps will take in an additional $46.2 million at the domestic box office alone by the end of its sophomore weekend, achieving this worldwide milestone should be well within its reach.

Our Take On The Fantastic Four: First Steps Milestone

It’s A Good Sign For The MCU In General

Even more importantly, The Fantastic Four: First Steps seems set to become the highest-grossing Marvel movie of the year, outstripping the underperforming Captain America: Brave New World ($200.5 million domestic) and Thunderbolts* ($190.2 million).

The former took 15 days to pᴀss the $150 million domestic milestone, while the latter took 16, underscoring how much stronger Fantastic Four‘s current trajectory is.

This is especially good news because the Fantastic Four: First Steps cast is set to return in the upcoming crossover movie Avengers: Doomsday, and their characters will most likely be integral to the story of the villain, Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.).
