Superman Outgrosses 5 Harry Potter Movies After Box Office Surge

Superman is continuing to leap up the all-time domestic box office chart. The 2025 movie, which is the first in the newly rebranded DC Universe, stars David Corenswet in the тιтle role. The Superman cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Per The Numbers, 2025’s Superman has climbed to a cumulative domestic total of $296.7 million thanks to it bringing in an additional $4.3 million during the Tuesday of its third full week in theaters.

This sees it climbing an additional six spots up the all-time domestic chart on Box Office Mojo, supplanting 2010’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 ($296.4 million domestic) as the 114th highest-grossing movie of all time in North America.

Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is the fifth Harry Potter movie that Superman has outgrossed at the domestic box office, having already surpᴀssed Prisoner of Azkaban ($249.5 million domestic), Chamber of Secrets ($261.9 million), Goblet of Fire ($290 million), and Order of the Phoenix ($292 million).

At the domestic box office on Tuesday, it also outgrossed Christopher Nolan’s Inception ($292.6 million), Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back ($292.7 million), Pixar’s Up ($293 million), M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense ($293.5 million), and Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ($294.1 million).

What This Means For Superman

It Should Keep Climbing The Chart

Ultimately, it remains to be seen how high 2025’s Superman is able to climb at the domestic box office by the time its theatrical run is finished. However, it seems more or less guaranteed to continue outgrossing additional movies from the Harry Potter franchise.

Below, see a breakdown of the domestic gross of the Harry Potter movies above Superman, as well as their rankings on the all-time domestic chart:

Rank

тιтle

Domestic Box Office

#58

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

$381.4 million

#98

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

$318.9 million

#110

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

$302.3 million

At the time of writing, Box Office Theory projects that Superman will gross roughly $17.4 million at the domestic box office during its fourth weekend in theaters, which would bring its cumulative gross to more than $314.1 million by the end of Sunday.

In addition to seeing it pᴀss the $300 million milestone, this total would make it surge past Iron Man 2 ($312.4 million) to No. 102 on the chart, easily surpᴀssing Half-Blood Prince and drawing dangerously close to Sorcerer’s Stone.

While it may not outgross Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (which had a far superior opening weekend of $169.2 million, compared to Superman‘s $125 million), the superhero movie is showing a strong standing among fellow blockbusters that should land it a secure position in the all-time domestic Top 100.

Our Take On The Superman Box Office

The DCU Could Have A Bright Future

Even if Superman is unable to outgross every single Harry Potter movie, its success compared to those classic blockbusters is a good sign for the upcoming DCU movies, including Supergirl and Clayface. Its success puts the relaunched franchise in a good position to give those movies wiggle room, allowing them to shine even if they have slightly diminishing returns.
