George R.R. Martin Reviews Superman And Compares David Corenswet To Previous Actors

James Gunn’s Superman movie has earned a glowing review from famed Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. Since its release on July 11, 2025, the new DC movie has soared in popularity, becoming an overall critical and commercial success. In fact, Gunn’s Superman has even beaten Man Of Steel’s box office record, crossing $292.4 million at the domestic box office.

Now, Superman has even received a positive review from Martin via his blog, Not A Blog. After watching the new film, the author stated, this is one of the best Superman movies in a long time… maybe ever. This new Superman reminds me of the version I used to read about when I was a kid.”

The Game of Thrones author clearly had a lot of enthusiasm for the film, praising the film’s comic accuracy and reflecting on the stories he used to read as a child. Martin also praised Gunn’s casting choices before launching into a review of the characters and the actors who play them. Check out his review below:

The film looks great, and James Gunn did a great job with the casting. Rachel Bosnahan was terrific as Lois Lane; I’d say it’s between her and Margot Kidder for Best Lois Ever. And there’s no doubt whatsoever for the Best Lex. Nicholas Hoult was far and away the Best Luthor of All Time, a truly chilling villain. The kid in the cape was excellent as well. I hope he gets to play Kal-El in another dozen movies.
