“It’s Surreal”: Kevin Feige Hypes Interaction Between Original X-Men & MCU Characters In Avengers: Doomsday

This article includes spoilers from The Fantastic Four: First Steps.Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shares more details on the big Marvel crossovers that are set to happen in Avengers: Doomsday. While Phase 6 has just begun with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the final chapter of The Multiverse Saga will finally give the audience not one, but two Avengers movies.

In 2026, audience members are finally going to get to see two major eras of Marvel come together, as several original X-Men cast members are set to reprise their roles from the Fox films in Avengers: Doomsday. For Feige, it will be a huge full-circle moment as he originally was part of producing Fox’s X-Men movies before he started running Marvel Studios.

In a new interview with Marvel, Feige spoke about the MCU’s future following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as Avengers: Doomsday will be where the franchise will see Marvel’s First Family next. While teasing how The Fantastic Four will fit with the Avengers and X-Men, Feige shared the following:

The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along. In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in the Fantastic Four movie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [in Doomsday]. It’s a thrill to see that interaction. And it’s surreal for me, who’s been around for 25 years.

When Feige was asked about revisiting the X-Men following his own history of producing those earlier movies, he said the following:

It was another dream that we just didn’t think about for many years. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine scratched the surface of that. And now, we’re really delving into it with Doomsday.

What Kevin Feige’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments Means

The X-Men, Avengers, & Fantastic Four Will Finally Share The Big Screen

Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene, are actively shooting Avengers: Doomsday. The Russo brothers are also officially set to helm Avengers: Secret Wars, which will have its principal pH๏τography separately from Avengers: Doomsday.

Given that Feige mentioned how the Baxter Building from The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be used in Avengers: Doomsday, it means that there will be a visit to Earth-828 at some point in the 2026 installment. Since The Fantastic Four: First Steps ended with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom visiting Franklin Richards, a trip to Earth-828 makes perfect sense.

Having the original cinematic takes on the X-Men crossing paths with the MCU’s Avengers and Fantastic Four is, for many reasons, going to be a mᴀssive deal. The original X-Men movies played a vital part in the early 2000s in launching the superhero movie genre before the MCU even existed, which makes this crossover in Avengers: Doomsday one of the most anticipated moments.

Our Take On Kevin Feige’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments

Feige’s Just As Much Of A Fan As The Audience

Knowing Feige’s history with the X-Men films, it’s understandable to hear him be as excited as he is for the culmination in Avengers: Doomsday, especially with Marvel Studios having the rights to the mutants. The bigger question, however, is whether the same X-Men stars will be part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast in 2027.

It wouldn’t be shocking if most – if not all – of the Doomsday cast members are also slated to return for Secret Wars, given how the two films are connected. But as Avengers: Doomsday continues filming, time will tell how the X-Men and Fantastic Four will engage with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
