Adam Sandler rose to stardom during the 1990s with a string of hit comedies, including Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, and Big Daddy. He remained a comedy staple throughout the 2000s with popular movies such as Mr. Deeds, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, Click, Grown Ups, Just Go With It, Grown Ups 2, and Blended.

Since 2015, Sandler has made movies almost exclusively for Netflix, releasing тιтles like The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, Murder Mystery, Hubie Halloween, Murder Mystery 2, and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Now, Sandler has a new Netflix comedy out, and it’s his biggest one yet.

Happy Gilmore 2 Sets Multiple Streaming Records

It Was Just Released A Few Days Ago

Happy Gilmore 2 has set multiple Netflix streaming records in just days after its release. A sequel to 1996’s Happy Gilmore, the new Netflix film brings back Adam Sandler’s тιтular Happy Gilmore, now a former golfer and widowed alcoholic who makes a comeback to the professional golf circuit in order to fund his daughter’s ballet studies abroad.

Happy Gilmore 2‘s cast also brings back Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, and Kevin Nealon. New cast members include Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, John Daly, Sunny Sandler, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Ethan Cutkosky, and Haley Joel Osment. The film also features several cameos from Eminem, Travis Kelce, Post Malone, and many more.

According to Netflix, Happy Gilmore 2 received 46.7 million views within its first three days, marking the biggest debut ever for any Adam Sandler movie on Netflix. It also recorded the largest opening weekend ever for a Netflix film in the U.S.

Audiences also spent time revisiting the original movie, which climbed to the third place spot with 11.4 million views. Meanwhile, those wanting more of Adam Sandler also turned to H๏τel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, which landed in seventh with 4.5 million views.

For the past week, Happy Gilmore 2 also ranked ahead of KPop Demon Hunters, Lost on a Mountain in Maine, Trainwreck: P.I. Moms, Madea’s Destination Wedding, Rampage, The Old Guard 2, and Until Dawn on Netflix’s Global Top 10 movies.

Happy Gilmore 2 is Netflix’s number one movie in 47 countries this week, including the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Africa, Australia, and many more.

What Happy Gilmore 2’s Netflix Success Means For The Movie

Audiences Are Loving The Sequel

Though Happy Gilmore 2 reviews have been mixed, resulting in a 64% Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s enjoying a slightly higher 70% audience score, driven by its nostalgic appeal and Sandler’s enduring fanbase, which has fueled mᴀssive viewership. By bringing back a beloved character and pairing him with a modern storyline, Netflix proves that reviving comedy classics can still be a crowd-pleasing move in today’s streaming landscape.
