New Mystery Horror Movie With Star-Studded Cast Debuts With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

2025 has already had some strong horror тιтles that have impressed both critics and audiences. Most notably, this included Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which came out in April of this year. The movie did well at the box office, and got great reviews, scoring a 97% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.

One of the film’s champions was ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki, who gave the movie 9 out of 10 stars. She praised the film’s pacing and use of music, while also saying that it was “already one of the best films of the year.”

Another of this year’s well-rated horror films was Bring Her Back. Unlike Sinners, the movie did not do as well as it could have at the box office, but nonetheless managed an 89% Tomatometer.

Even with these initially strong тιтles, there is still a long year in horror to come. Tomorrow includes the release of Together, and the fall is slated for some exciting releases, including The Black Phone 2. Now, an anticipated horror film has made an impressive Rotten Tomatoes debut.

Weapons Debuts To A Coveted 100% Tomatometer

This Is Higher Than Cregger’s Previous Film

Weapons has gotten a strong Rotten Tomatoes score so far. The horror film is director Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian. The 2022 movie was incredibly well-received, receiving a 92% Tomatometer and making $45.3 million on an estimated $4.5 million budget.

This time around, Cregger delves into the world of psychological horror with Weapons. The plot follows the story of a small town wherein, one night at 2:17am, all but one member of a particular elementary school class go missing. This leaves their community questioning what caused the disappearance, and throwing blame around.

Weapons features a leading cast including Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, and Toby Huss. It is set for release on August 8.

Now, Weapons has gotten its first Rotten Tomatoes score. The film debuted to a perfect 100%. This is subject to change, as there are only 11 reviews in, at the time of writing. Likewise, the film does not yet have an audience Popcornmeter, for it has yet to release in theaters.

What This Means For Weapons

This Is A Good Sign For The Movie At The Box Office

So far, critics are praising Weapons as one of the year’s great horror films so far. Slashfilm‘s Chris Evangelista specifically referred to it as “one of the best horror movies of the year.” Inverse noted that the film is “as haunting and cerebral as it is almost cartoonishly funny.”

These positive reviews will create a buzz around Weapons that might boost it at the box office. Cregger already had a hit with Barbarian, which also gave him clout in the horror scene. He can hopefully turn this hype into box office gold after Weapons‘ strong Rotten Tomatoes debut.
