New A24 Trailer Reveals Elizabeth Olsen, Callum Turner & Miles Teller’s Love Triangle But With A Shocking Twist

A trailer has been revealed for Eternity. This upcoming film is an A24 movie described as a fantasy comedy. It takes place in an afterlife where newly formed souls get one week to decide where to spend eternity. This leaves one spirit woman, Joan, in a sticky situation as she has to choose between her long-term partner and first love.

Joan is played by WandaVision‘s Elizabeth Olsen. Her two potential soul-mates are Callum Turner and Miles Teller, with a supporting cast that includes Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Betty Buckley, John Early, and Jeff Sanca. The movie is directed by David Freyne and is set for release this fall.

Now, A24 has revealed the first full trailer for Eternity. The film starts with Teller’s Larry on a train to the afterlife, faced with a young boy in a dapper suit. Larry meets with Anna, his “afterlife coordinator,” who explains to him that he must use his time in “the junction” to choose one place to spend eternity.

From there, Larry meets up with Joan, his wife from the real-world. Things get a lot more complicated, though, when Joan’s late first husband shows up. This leads all three characters to face intense interpersonal drama, while still having some laughs along the way.

What This Means For Eternity

The Film Looks Both Comedic And Heartfelt

One of the key elements in the Eternity trailer is that it gives a closer look at the film’s use of comedy. In one segment, Joan tries to comfort her lovers by saying “it’s not a compeтιтion,” to which Randolph’s Anna replies “sweetheart, it is 100% for sure a compeтιтion.”

As for this compeтιтion, the trailer shows the rivalry between the two former husbands. As everyone admires the romantic words of Joan’s first husband, Larry defends himself with “I can be romantic!

While there are certainly moments of comedy and levity, Eternity also seems to have a genuinely heartfelt feel. Though there is an aspect of situational comedy to the whole ordeal, Joan is genuinely struggling with what decision to make, prompting questions about love and marriage in the process.

Our Take On The Eternity Trailer

This Is A Great Follow-Up To One Key TV Series

There have been other parodies of the afterlife, so the concept is not entirely novel. In recent years, these themes have been prominently tooled around with in the NBC series The Good Place. This show was very well-received, and may be fresh in viewers’ minds as a point of comparison to Eternity.

That said, I think that Eternity looks like the perfect stand-in for The Good Place. Olsen’s performance in the film already looks compelling and emotional, which could help to ground the often-comedic narrative. If all goes well, Eternity could be a highlight for A24 this year.
