One Of 2025’s Most Acclaimed Horror Movies Is Now Officially Available On Digital

Prime horror movie season has not even really started yet, but several films have already impressed critics and audiences. While the year started out slowly with a miss from Blumhouse with Wolf Man, things picked up with the releases of Companion and The Monkey.

Springtime was an even better spot for horror with the release of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. The highly original film made $365.8 million worldwide, and got great reviews from critics. The film is even in early talks to get Oscar nominations, which is a rare feat for a horror movie.

Sinners was a big win, and then franchise horror had a big moment with Final Destination Bloodlines. It made $285.3 million worldwide and was touted as one of the best in the series.

It has not been all wins for the horror genre this year, however. Blumhouse delivered another major disappointment with M3GAN 2.0, which failed to be a significant draw despite the first film’s success. Now, however, one of the year’s more successful horror sequels is available on VOD.

28 Years Later Is Now Available On Digital

The Film Was Well-Liked By Critics

28 Years Later has officially become available on digital. It is the third film in the 28 Days Later series, which began in 2002 with the Danny Boyle-directed movie of the same name. This film picks up the story decades after the rage virus initially broke out, following survivors living on a remote island.

Boyle returned to direct the latest installment, which starred a leading cast including Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Alfie Williams. 28 Years Later got strong reviews, earning an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score overall. This included a 7 out of 10-star review from ScreenRant‘s Mary Kᴀssel, who noted the film’s strong messaging.

As per Sony, 28 Years Later is now available on VOD. The digital version just arrived today, July 29. It will be followed by a 4K UHD Steelbook, Blu-ray, and DVD release on September 23.

Those who purchase 28 Years Later will have access to the movie’s special bonus features. This includes behind-the-scenes content including segments тιтled “Becoming the Infected,” “Days to Years” and “Capturing the Chaos.”

What This Means For 28 Years Later

Its Success Could Grow On Digital

28 Years Later ended up making $150 million at the box office, which was by far the biggest total for any of the franchise’s films so far. However, that was still a bit under early expectations. With its release on VOD, the movie has the opportunity to expand its revenue.

This success is particularly important as it awaits the release of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. If 28 Years Later becomes a digital success, it will be a good sign for the growth of this zombie horror franchise.
