James Gunn Addresses If Robert Pattinson’s Batman Will Join The DC Universe After Renewed Fan Interest

James Gunn shares an update on whether Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be integrated into the DC Universe. As DC Studios works on a new movie for Batman set in Gunn’s DCU timeline, Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe is also ongoing and set under the separate Elseworlds banner. Pattinson will reprise the role in The Batman 2, which will begin filming at the end of 2025.

However, some DC audience members have made it clear that they want to see Pattinson’s take on The Dark Knight join the DCU rather than exist outside of it. While Gunn has commented on casting Batman for the DCU with a separate actor, many are still holding out hope for Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne to join DC Studios’ main continuity.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gunn was asked if there had been any consideration toward bringing Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU alongside David Corenswet’s Superman. However, Gunn made it clear that that is not the direction they are going for the DCU’s Batman, as he shared the following:

I’ve said it before, we’ve talked about it before, so it’s not what’s happening right now. Everything’s in flux, so we’ll figure out what we’re doing next.

What James Gunn’s Robert Pattinson Batman Comments Mean

The DCU Will Have Its Own Batman

As understandable as it is that fans want to see Pattinson’s Batman cross paths with the DCU heroes, Gunn and DC Studios are actively working on The Brave and The Bold, which will depict the Caped Crusader when he is further along in his journey as a crime-fighter. Since the DCU will have a Bat-Family, Pattinson’s Batman wouldn’t fit at all for this vision.

Since Pattinson’s Batman is still relatively young and early into his crusade, it would also be a huge disservice to have the DCU bring him in only to do a forced time-jump where he would be able ot work in this context. As Gunn made clear in his latest comments, things are still in development for the DCU’s Batman, thus keeping Pattinson out of this franchise.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Robert Pattinson Batman Comments

Pattinson’s Batman Wouldn’t Fit Into The DCU

After hearing Gunn address the DCU’s Batman situation once again, this will ideally be the last time he has to comment on it, especially since The Batman 2 is already moving forward later this fall. Given the premise of The Brave and The Bold, fans are going to have the best of both worlds.

While Pattinson’s younger Batman gets to continue growing into the DC legend, the DCU will get to explore a more established take on the hero at the same time. Hopefully, as The Brave and The Bold script continues to be worked on, more DCU updates will emerge about the new Batman and his future in Gunn’s franchise.
