The MCU Officially Cast Its New Iron Fist

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to introduce a new Iron Fist, as another version of the hero has been cast in the franchise. While there aren’t any more Marvel movies scheduled for 2025, the frnachise has several TV shows still coming out for the rest of the year.

Following the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the MCU will be revisiting the world of animation with Eyes of Wakanda, set to premiere on August 1 on Disney+. One of the characters included in Eyes of Wakanda is a new Iron Fist, with the series serving as a prequel.

While details have been limited about the new Iron Fist, the actor has finally been revealed. Jona Xiao revealed on her official Instagram page that she is set to voice the character in Eyes of Wakanda. Check out her full announcement below:

In her video post, Xiao stated, “So stoked to reveal I’m playing the MCU’s 1st ever female Iron Fist! Catch Marvel’s ‘Eyes of Wakanda,’ dropping on Disney+ August 1st!” Eyes of Wakanda will consist of four episodes and was developed by Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler.

What Jona Xiao’s Iron Fist Casting Means For The MCU

There Are Now Multiple Iron Fists In The MCU

At the time of this story’s publication, it’s unknown what the name of Xiao’s character is. It’s unclear if the show is creating a new Iron Fist, or using someone from the comics. The fact that Eyes of Wakanda features a female version of the hero shows that the MCU’s Iron Fist is being honored after the Marvel-Netflix shows became canon to the franchise.

While Xiao’s character is chronologically the first female Iron Fist, it won’t be the first time that fans have seen a woman wield that power in the MCU. Colleen Wing became the next user during Iron Fist season 2. With Eyes of Wakanda being a prequel, it won’t contradict anything related to the MCU’s Danny Rand, or Colleen, for that matter.

With Xiao confirming the casting, it will be exciting to see what her Iron Fist will be like in the Eyes of Wakanda TV show, especially as there are no details known yet about her character. However, with the prequel setting at their disposal, there are a lot of directions they can take with Xiao’s Iron Fist as the MCU’s history gets more fleshed out.

In general, it will be fascinating to see what new layers of the MCU will be revealed through Eyes of Wakanda. With Eyes of Wakanda premiering on August 1 on Disney+, fans won’t have to wait too long to see what is in store with Xiao’s Iron Fist.
