Mission: Impossible 8 Box Office Hits Final Global Milestone Ahead Of VOD Release

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning‘s box office hits a final global milestone ahead of its digital release. The eighth and possibly final Mission: Impossible film follows Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team of IMF operatives as they continue their fight against the rogue AI known as the Enтιтy and prevent it from destroying all of humanity.

Led by Cruise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning‘s cast also includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bᴀssett, and Shea Whigham reprising their roles. New cast members include Mindhunter‘s Holt McCallany, Parks and Recreation‘s Nick Offerman, Ted Lᴀsso‘s Hannah Waddingham, Severance‘s Tramell Tillman, and Love Lies Bleeding‘s Katy O’Brian.

Now, following its ninth weekend in theaters, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has reached $590 million at the box office worldwide, according to The Numbers. Though it still has a chance of surpᴀssing $600 million, this could be its final global milestone before its digital release on August 19.

Right now, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s box office breaks down to $196 million domestically and $395 million internationally for a grand total of $591 million worldwide.

What Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s Box Office Milestone Means For The Movie

They’re Solid Numbers, But Is It Profitable?

By reaching $590 million worldwide, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning continues to put up solid numbers at the box office. Back in May, it debuted to $64 million domestically in its first three days, the best opening weekend in the franchise’s history. Grossing $591 million is also good enough for the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2025 so far.

While The Final Reckoning‘s box office numbers are solid in a vacuum, it hasn’t exactly been a profitable endeavor for Paramount. This is because of its mᴀssive $300–400 million budget, making it one of the most expensive movies ever made. In turn, The Final Reckoning needs to make around $750 million to $1 billion to be considered a box-office success, which it has little chance of reaching.

Our Take On Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s Box Office

Could It Still Become A Financial Success?

Even though The Final Reckoning may fall short of breaking even in theaters, it still has a sH๏τ at long-term profitability through video-on-demand and home media sales. These platforms often give underperforming blockbusters a second life, especially those with strong fan followings and international appeal like Mission: Impossible.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning could thrive in the aftermarket, eventually closing the profitability gap.

For example, The Northman struggled to turn a theatrical profit in 2022 but found surprising financial success on digital platforms, recouping much of its losses post-release. With Cruise’s global star power and the franchise’s loyal fan base, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning could similarly thrive in the aftermarket, eventually closing the profitability gap.
