Former Storm actor Alexandra Shipp reveals what she wants to see the X-Men reboot do for the heroine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As fans have been waiting to see the mutants get their proper place in the Marvel lineup, Marvel Studios is actively working on the X-Men film that will finally reboot the characters.
As the MCU’s X-Men will be different from Fox’s versions of the characters, there are many directions for Kevin Feige and his team to take the characters in. While the reboot is still in development, one former X-Men star is already addressing what she hopes to see from whoever replaces her in the MCU.
During an interview with Collider, Shipp shared her personal hopes for what the MCU will do with Storm when the character arrives in the franchise. Shipp shared how she would love to see the MCU tackle Storm’s romance with Black Panther, as she stated the following:
I would love to see Storm after her and T’Challa, You know what I mean? I want to see that part of Storm’s backstory brought into the throughline, into her story at that moment. You know what I mean? Because that Storm, that African goddess, we’ve never seen before.
Shipp made her debut as the younger version of Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, reprised the role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and made a cameo appearance in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2. Jake Schreier is set to direct the X-Men reboot for Marvel Studios, although no release date is currently set for the movie.
What Alexandra Shipp’s Storm Comments Mean For The MCU
Fox’s X-Men Films Never Had The Full Marvel Rights
It’s crucial to take into account that while Fox owned the X-Men movie rights, there were a lot of elements they could never tackle with some of the mutants’ comic book canon. Storm’s love story with Black Panther was one of them, since the Wakandan hero is owned by Marvel Studios.
While the primary version of T’Challa is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in the main MCU timeline, it’s always possible for Marvel Studios to tackle the romance after The Multiverse Saga. Since Avengers: Secret Wars will be an MCU reset, Marvel Studios could either recast T’Challa or have Storm bond with a grown-up version of T’Challa Jr. It seems highly likely that the franchise will include a new version of T’Challa at some point.
Our Take On Alexandra Shipp’s Storm MCU Comments
The MCU Can Finally Honor Storm’s Comic Legacy
After hearing Shipp’s comments about her hopes for Storm’s MCU journey, it would be amazing to see the X-Men heroine’s legacy with Black Panther honored in one way or another. It would not be shocking at all if, after Phase 6, they actually do explore it through the MCU reset.
With the multiverse available for Marvel Studios’ use, there could also be a chance for a T’Challa recasting with a variant who ends up being part of the franchise post-Avengers: Secret Wars. Hopefully, more details on the X-Men reboot and where Storm fits into the MCU will emerge sooner rather than later.
