The coming months and years are set to bring a range of Batman movies to our screens from this year all the year up until 2028 thanks to DC’s currently announced roster of films. DC’s upcoming selection of movies offers both some very different premises and prospects and focus on, and some new takes on characters with extensive on-screen history.
Naturally, Batman is one such figure in the second category, since he’s still one of the most popular superheroes in existence almost one century into the character’s existence. As it stands, DC is looking to further building on the Dark Knight’s history with an array of Batman movies, which are announced all the way up to 2028.
There Are Batman Movies Set To Release Every Year Between Now & 2028
Plenty Of Batman Movies Are On The Way
Thanks to a mixture of announcements, we already know the future is filled with Batman movies of varying shapes and sizes. First and foremost, this year’s Batman movie was cemented thanks to Aztec Batman‘s San-Diego Comic-Con trailer reveal, which confirmed a release date of September 18, 2025 for the upcoming DC film.
This means the next Batman movie is only a few months away, though there are many more on the horizon. Following Aztec Batman, 2026 is notably set to bring a very different kind of Batman movie to life for the DCU before The Brave & The Bold, as Clayface is set to release on September 11, 2026.
After getting a Batman movie more focused on a prominent member of his rogues gallery, 2027 is scheduled to see the release of the most currently anticipated upcoming Batman movie thanks to The Batman 2 now having an October 1, 2027 release date. This follows the film being pushed back from both a 2026 and 2025 release date.
Finally, one of Batman’s most unusual film projects is set to emerge in 2028. This is in the form of Dynamic Duo, a movie about Batman sidekicks Dick Grayson and Jason Todd that is set to use a combination of puppetry and CGI for its distinctive visual style, which was announced to be releasing on June 30, 2028.
More Batman Movies Will Be Added To This Roster Soon
There Are More Batman Film Projects That Seem To Be On The Horizon
While these Batman movies certainly set up a fascinating roster for DC’s future, they by no means appear to be the sole films that will release or be in the works in this time. Most notably, The Brave & The Bold is currently in development, and The Batman 3 seems borderline guaranteed given the initial movie and The Penguin‘s success.
It seems possible for The Brave & The Bold to come to fruition by 2028, given it’s clearly a focal project for the DCU, and since otherwise the DC Universe timeline will go over four years without a Batman movie. While things are less clear for The Batman 3, it still seems likely to get greenlit regardless of specific timings.
Of course, it’s also unlikely that even just these films will be the only new Batman movies to be announced going forward. Historically, DC has released a slew of animated movies – including a huge range of Batman тιтles – and Aztec Batman has only underlined the potential of using these films to explore Batman from new perspectives.
Combined with the DCU seemingly leaning into exploring the opportunities that non-live-action movie formats present – as evidenced by Creature Commandos and Dynamic Duo being greenlit – this all suggests more animated movies are also impending. Indeed, in some ways, it’s a case of the more the merrier, given what a ranged slew of Batman movies can do for the hero.
Four Years Of Batman Movies Should Help Deal With A DC Hero Complaint
These Batman Movies Promise To Appeal To A Range Of Different Fans
Batman’s collected history across the course of his on-screen and on-page career has been one that’s as extensive as it is varied. The hero’s stories have leaned into different directions and seen him characterized in mᴀssively different – and sometimes even directly contrasting – ways, which has made adaptations decidedly more complicated.
There are many different versions of Batman who are each someone’s favorite version, and balancing fan hopes and demands with on-screen offerings subsequently looks a little like having to juggle a million people’s hopes and dreams at once. This is arguably what’s often led to tonal complaints about Batman movies, since not everyone wants lighter or more serious Batman stories.
As such, having several Batman movies releasing around the same time is especially promising when they all promise to deliver different things. The tones and stories we can expect from releases like Clayface and Dynamic Duo look set to be totally different – but this effectively means they can appeal to all different Batman fans, or superhero film fans in general.
Previously, Batman fans have had to wait sometimes decades in order to see a varied selection of films regarding the hero and his mythos. Instead, the coming years are set to provide us with a ranged and incredible-looking ᴀssortment of adventures regarding the Caped Crusader and those in his lore, making the future all the more exciting in several ways.
