Horror Video Game Adaptation With 53% RT Score Makes Netflix Charts After Its Streaming Debut

Video game adaptations have been on the rise in the past few years. On television, this has taken the form of hit shows such as The Last of Us and Fallout. Both тιтles have been huge hits upon their releases and have received Emmy nominations for their performances and technical elements.

On the movie side, video game adaptations have been some of the highest-grossing films of the last few years. This notably includes The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made $1.3 billion upon its release. This year, A Minecraft Movie was also a huge success, making over $955 million.

While both Super Mario Bros. Movie and A Minecraft Movie were aimed primarily at children, this is not the case for all video game adaptations. The more family-friendly adaptations based on mega-hit games tend to have the best box office chances, but there are certainly other works being adapted. Now, one of this year’s adult-oriented video game adaptations is now doing well on streaming.

Until Dawn Has Become A Netflix Hit

And It Just Recently Debuted On Streaming

Until Dawn is now a hit on streaming. The horror movie is an adaptation of the hit horror video game of the same name. In the film version, a group of young adults visit a mysterious house and find themselves stuck in a time loop wherein they are repeatedly murdered, and have to survive until dawn to break the loop.

The film had a respectable showing in theaters. While the film got mixed reviews, holding a 53% Tomatometer, it made $53.6 million worldwide. This meant the movie likely profited off of its estimated $15 million budget.

As per Netflix, Until Dawn has now made it onto the streaming charts. The movie came in at no. 5 of the top 10 movies in the United States today, July 28.

It even ranked above the recently released Netflix original Madea’s Destination Wedding. This comes just four days after it debuted on the platform on July 24.

What This Means For Until Dawn

This Could Up The Sequel Chances

Until Dawn is by no means the biggest horror movie of the year so far, and it is even further from being the biggest video game adaptation. That said, the film’s Netflix success, especially so soon after its streaming debut, shows there is a significant audience base for the film.

This could be a good sign for a potential Until Dawn sequel film. Writer and producer Gary Dauberman has already spoken positively towards sequel prospects, saying that this movie could be part of “one interconnected franchise.” If people keep supporting Until Dawn at this level, a sequel could be announced sooner rather than later.
