Friday The 13th Future Gets Major Sequel Update From Producer

Horror Inc. Vice President Robbie Barsamian teases an expansion of the Friday the 13th franchise. Founded by Sean Cunningham, who directed the original 1980 classic, the production company Horror Inc. owns the rights to the popular horror franchise created by Victor Miller and is currently at the stage of expanding the Jason universe.

A prequel тιтled Crystal Lake is currently in production, focusing on Jason Voorhees’ childhood and the events leading up to the first Friday the 13th movie, while the company previously promised to introduce a new look for Jason as well as bring a multimedia immersive experience in the coming years.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Barsamian, who is producing Crystal Lake, revealed that they are working on a new sequel movie and a video game, per Bloody Disgusting. He shared that both are “at the top” of their list and where “most” of their energy is going. While he stressed that they’re not officially announcing the two projects just yet, “both are coming.” Check out what he said below:

What Robbie Barsamian’s Reveal Means For Friday The 13th

Friday The 13th Is Planning A Multimedia Comeback

The most recent Friday the 13th movie traces back to the 2009 reboot. It’s been 16 years since Jason Voorhees last terrorized the big screen. However, Barsamian’s statement teases that the terrifying villain will return in the form of a new film, a video game, and a prequel series from A24 and Peacock. This potentially means that more announcements could be coming soon.

At the panel, Barsamian didn’t specify which movie would serve as the original for the sequel, but the new movie will likely follow up on the events in the 2009 reboot, which is the most logical choice. While the company head didn’t share more specific details about the project, it’s very likely that fans will be able to learn more about it once the studio makes an official announcement, which won’t be too long from now, given that both projects are top priorities.

Our Take On The Friday The 13th Sequel Reveal At SDCC

Friday The 13th Sequel Is Teased, But Yet To Be Confirmed

The highly anticipated horror series, Crystal Lake, has yet to receive a premiere date at Peacock. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane didn’t attend the SDCC due to filming, but an exclusive video message featuring behind-the-scenes footage was shared at the event, offering fans a sneak peek at the location and the special effects.

In addition to the teases and soft hints, Horror Inc. unveiled the official trailer for Sweet Revenge, a short film directed by Mike P. Nelson, which will serve as the centerpiece for the Friday the 13th franchise’s 45th anniversary campaign. Die-hard fans who have expected more footage reveals and tone teases might be disappointed. However, it does sound like there are at least three projects in the pipeline at various stages of development.
