Overlooked Comedy Movie With 80% RT Score Is Now A Streaming Hit

An overlooked comedy movie, boasting a strong Rotten Tomatoes score, has become a streaming hit. The genre has been unpredictable, but in recent years, Anyone But You managed to excite rom-com fans and generate over $220 million, while A Real Pain earned multiple Academy Award nominations.

Among several comedy releases from last year, Dìdi and Problemista garnered praise from audiences, maintaining Tomatometer scores of 95% and 86%, respectively. The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, also performed well critically, despite an underwhelming box office.

This year has produced some highly enjoyable and surprisingly successful comedy movies, notably Novocaine and The Materialists. However, an acclaimed comedy drama, The Ballad of Wallis Island, starring Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden and holding an impressive 97% Tomatometer, seemingly went unnoticed.

I Love You Forever Is Gaining Views On Streaming

The Comedy Drama Is On HBO Max

I Love You Forever premiered back in February and received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 80%. The comedy drama, co-directed by Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani, focuses on a young woman as she experiences a harmful and toxic relationship. The movie is also produced by Diablo Cody, who wrote Juno and Jennifer’s Body.

It had a small release, but I Love You Forever was overlooked at the time. The film stars Sofia Black-D’Elia of Skins and Single Drunk Female, as well as Cazzie David, Jon Rudnitsky, and Ray Nicholson, who had some big movies recently with Novocaine and Smile 2.

Now, I Love You Forever has become a streaming hit on HBO Max. The comedy is presently number 9 on the streaming service’s Top 10 Movies Today chart, ranking behind A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition.

Other movies ahead of it include Death of a Unicorn, Sinners, Opus, A Minecraft Movie, Man of Steel, Great White ᴀssᴀssins, and Jaws vs Mega Croc. It only sits ahead of In The Eye of the Storm: Shark Storm.

What This Means For I Love You Forever

The Movie Is Finding An Audience

While I Love You Forever might not have made a big splash initially, the streaming success indicates that it is reaching viewers on HBO Max. It is also worth noting that the audience-based Popcornmeter currently has no score, so how that number compares to the Tomatometer remains to be seen.

I Love You Forever could potentially continue moving on the Top 10 chart, which could signal that people are enjoying the movie and that its audience may keep growing. Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see what kind of waves the comedy makes online, and how viewers respond to it.
