James Gunn’s DCU has already introduced dozens of meta-humans despite it still being in its infancy. The DCU reboot has hit the ground running with a fully-formed universe. Long gon are the days of incremental world-building told over numerous films. The DCU is already packed with notable DC metahumans.
James Gunn’s Superman (2025) introduces a Hall of Justice mural featuring over two dozen legacy metahumans. These heroes existed long before Superman’s debut, hinting at a richly layered DC Universe filled with centuries of superpowered activity. Combined with the animated Creature Commandos, these metahumans reveal the DCU’s deep history.
While not confirmed, it seems that the DCU is using a different definition for metahumans than DC Comics. In the comics, Meta-Humans are people with a specific gene, much like Marvel’s X-Men. In the DCU, the term is applied to all humanoid figures with some kind of superpower. As such, Batman, though established in-universe, does not technically count.
