A Sequel To DreamWorks’ Sleeper Hit That Made $250 Million Is Right Around The Corner

DreamWorks has always been a hit-or-miss studio, with plenty of projects that fail to find any success and become completely forgotten alongside some of the most beautiful and iconic animated movies of all time. Now, their newest project is about to hit theaters in just a few days.

While some animation studios have been focused on telling brand-new, original stories for each release, DreamWorks has always been famous for the many, many sequels it creates for its most popular properties, plenty of which manage to surpᴀss even the originals.

Movies like Shrek 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2 are some of the very best animated movies DreamWorks has ever made. Now, DreamWorks is gearing up to release a sequel to one of their slightly lesser-known movies, which will hopefully earn a spot among the studio’s best as well.

DreamWorks’ The Bad Guys Sequel Comes Out Next Week

The Bad Guys 2 Has Been In The Works Since The Original In 2022

The Bad Guys 2 is DreamWorks’ newest film, set to be released in theaters across the world on Friday, August 1. The movie is obviously a sequel to their 2022 movie The Bad Guys, a comedy heist movie which itself was based off of a children’s graphic novel series that began in 2015.

While The Bad Guys wasn’t an enormous, runaway success, it did very well when it came out, earning $250 million worldwide on a $70-80 million dollar budget, making it their highest-grossing movie since How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019.

The Bad Guys 2 is doubling down on the heist genre once again, introducing a new group known as “Bad Girls”.

The first Bad Guys was about a group of anthropomorphic animal criminals, led by Mr. Wolf (the always excellent Sam Rockwell), who, after trying to fool the public into believing they had turned good in order to continue their nefarious schemes, actually became people who wanted to do the right thing.

The Bad Guys 2 is doubling down on the heist genre once again, introducing a new group known as “Bad Girls”. This team is led by Danielle Brooks as Kitty Kat, who pull the now-reformed Bad Guys back into the criminal underworld, where they are forced to do one last job in order to secure their freedom.

The first Bad Guys movie received great reviews, with nearly every aspect of the film earning praise, from the slick animation style and fun characters to the great performances from the voice cast. Critics also found the movie had solid writing and storytelling, and it even tugged on the heartstrings a little bit.

While obviously anything could happen, the sequel seems like it is going to be an easy slam dunk, especially as DreamWorks is currently riding off the huge success that The Wild Robot saw last year. If it manages to hit even a fraction as hard as that movie, The Bad Guys 2 is one that you definitely won’t want to miss.
