I’m So Glad This Sleeper Hit Dominated Streaming After A Botched Release In 2024

Despite a haphazard release schedule, the comedy horror F*** Marry Kill has found success on streaming. As a genre-bending release from Lionsgate, this story of a young woman who believes she might be dating a serial killer blended aspects of comedy, crime, horror, mystery, and thriller in a nail-biting story where practically everyone’s a suspect.

Featuring a great performance from Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale, F*** Marry Kill takes its тιтle from the question-and-answer game that becomes disturbingly literal as Eva Vaugh navigates the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly world of online dating. With a fresh concept and a sense of humor, it’s great that this Laura Murphy-directed movie is getting the attention it deserves after its botched release.

F*** Marry Kill’s Initial Release Didn’t Go To Plan

The Film Was Accidentally Released Early

F*** Marry Kill was initially scheduled to be released simultaneously in select theaters and on video-on-demand on December 6, 2024. However, weeks prior to this scheduled release date, Lionsgate postponed the film’s domestic release so that it could align with the movie’s international release date on March 7, 2025. The problem was, nobody told the streamers this.

This miscommunication meant F*** Marry Kill was accidentally released on digital stores and PVOD platforms on the earlier date (via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline.) It remained online for several hours before being pulled. While this mix-up was in danger of overshadowing the film, F*** Marry Kill has been a hit and ranked as Hulu’s top movie at the end of June 2025.

Why F*** Marry Kill Is Better Than Its Rotten Tomatoes Score Suggests

It’s Got A 47% Score From Critics

Often, Rotten Tomatoes scores can be unreliable, as genuinely engaging movies gain a bad reputation due to a poor critical reception. While F*** Marry Kill has been deemed rotten with a 47% critic score, the truth is this is a fun murder mystery with a light touch that manages to infuse horror elements into its satirical story.

There are enjoyable critiques of modern dating culture, funny takedowns of self-proclaimed nice guys, and enough twists and turns to keep things engaging throughout.

There are enjoyable critiques of modern dating culture, funny takedowns of self-proclaimed nice guys, and enough twists and turns to keep things engaging throughout. F*** Marry Kill’s killer-on-the-loose narrative may feel slightly generic at times, but the way it peppers its story with references to true crime podcasts and modern culture makes it feel relevant.

With some enjoyable supporting performances, Lucy Hale is the biggest reason to check out this surprise sleeper hit. Coming from BuzzFeed Studios, while this film production company may not have the best track record and has made plenty of forgettable releases, F*** Marry Kill stands as perhaps their most engaging film yet, and it’s worth checking out on streaming.
