The director of Netflix’s long-awaited Adam Sandler sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, discusses what it was like working with Sandler’s two daughters, Sadie and Sunny. Both Sadie, 18, and Sunny, 16, have crucial roles in the latest Sandler comedy, yet only one actually portrays Happy Gilmore’s daughter.
Both Sadie and Sunny also starred in Sandler’s 2023 Netflix comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Kyle Newacheck, who rose to prominence as a co-creator, director, and actor on the Comedy Central classic comedy series Workaholics, recently spoke with People about directing the Sandler family in the highly anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel.
“It was awesome. It’s amazing. It is so cool to see them all be creative and to work and gel to tell the story.
“It just makes me excited to see what they’re going to come up with in the next 10 years, if they’re going to follow their father’s footsteps and be committed to this family business. They’re all very talented and it’s awesome watching them work.”
What’s Next For Sadie & Sunny Sandler After Happy Gilmore 2
Both Of Sandler’s Daughters Are Attached To Upcoming Movies
Newacheck’s comments about Sadie and Sunny Sandler suggest that both of Sandler’s children are at the beginning of promising individual acting careers. Both Sadie and Sunny have been in over a dozen of Sandler’s classic movies over the years, including Grown Ups, Just Go with It, Murder Mystery, and Leo.
Happy Gilmore 2 seems to be more of a launching pad into new movie ventures for both Sadie and Sunny Sandler.
However, Happy Gilmore 2 seems to be more of a launching pad into new movie ventures for both Sadie and Sunny Sandler. Sadie is cast in an upcoming comedy called Roommates starring Natasha Lyonne and Nick Kroll that is currently in production. Meanwhile, Sunny is cast in a different comedy тιтled Don’t Say Good Luck alongside Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, and Steve Buscemi.
Actress Julie Bowen, who plays Virginia Venit in both Happy Gilmore movies, has nothing but praise for Sandler’s daughters. “They are great. They are really, really great. They’re wonderful young women to begin with,” (via People).
Bowen also noted how great it was to see Sandler working on set with his daughters. “Sadie’s studying acting [at NYU], so she was in school while we were doing it, but she would come to the set. Sunny was there all the time. It is so sweet to see [Adam] interact with them.”
Our Take On Sandler Casting His Daughters In His Recent Movies
Both Sadie & Sunny Are Individually Proving Themselves As Actors
The fact that Sandler has been casting his two kids in several of his movies for years is heartwarming and very on-brand for the comedic legend. As Newacheck pointed out, it will be interesting to see whether both Sadie and Sunny Sandler will continue to walk in their legendary father’s footsteps. All signs are currently pointing towards a “yes.”
It made sense that Sunny played the daughter of Sandler’s lead character in Happy Gilmore 2, since she has played that role before in several other movies, such as Spaceman and Bat Mitzvah. While Sadie also played one of Sandler’s daughters in Bat Mitzvah, it appears that her acting studies at NYU have inspired her to play a role outside the immediate family.
After their strong appearances in Happy Gilmore 2, both Sadie and Sunny Sandler should continue evolving in their acting careers, both in their dad’s new movies and in other notable projects.
