The DC Character James Gunn Promised An “Instant Green Light” Has 3 Perfect DCU Debut Chances

James Gunn jokingly agreed that one character from the comics would get an instant green light in the DCU, but there are some genuine projects where they could show up. The world of the DCU is already proving to be vast, with a variety of heroes, villains, and supporting figures seen in Superman.

However, there are hundreds more characters to explore throughout the pages of DC Comics, and there is one in particular that co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn, has said he would instantly green-light. But, in order to make it work, it needs to have the right story.

James Gunn Teased Bat-Mite Would Be An “Instant Green Light” For Him If Pulled Off Properly

Bat-Mite Is One Of The Most Unusual Characters From DC Comics

James Gunn is a fan of quirky, obscure, and unusual stories. It’s clear from the stories he has already told, and the characters that he tends to put at the heart of these pieces. And as such, it makes perfect sense that the DC character Gunn agreed to instantly green-light is Bat-Mite.

Bat-Mite could conceivably be a hero, but instead, they have an obsession with Batman.

If you haven’t heard of Bat-Mite, you’d be forgiven. Despite having appeared in the comics since the 1959, this character has only been included in a handful of stories. Bat-Mite is a 5th Dimensional Being, similar to Mr. Mxyzptlk, who has extraordinary power, but very little in the way of moral alignments.

Bat-Mite could conceivably be a hero, but instead, they have an obsession with Batman, and they often find themselves in the middle of mischief and trouble around their idol. As such, they pop up at random points, as either a help or a hindrance, and disappear just as quickly.

DC Has 3 Projects Could Make Most Sense For Bat-Mite To Appear Already

The DCU’s Tone Could Align Perfectly With A Character Like Bat-Mite

Now, as goofy as the character of Bat-Mite may be, it is entirely possible they could show up in the DCU. Since their story often overlaps with Gotham, the home of Batman, they could fit into any story that takes place in that part of the DCU. And right now, there are no less than three movies in the works that will feature Gotham.

First, Clayface, which is due to release in 2026, is a horror film that could see Bat-Mite appear in the background somewhere, but it also seems like the least likely option of the three. Next, the Dynamic Duo film, which is due to feature the DCU’s Dick Grayson and Jason Todd working together, could be a fun place to introduce the impish troublemaker.

But in order to really have the full effect, Bat-Mite would be best as an addition to the story of The Brave and the Bold. With the last two movies, it’s clear that the DCU is setting up a Bat-family, and Bat-Mite is a fun addition to that group.

However, it’s understandable if the tone of the character doesn’t fit perfectly in the DCU, but, they could do something similar to how they had the giant imp monster in the background of Superman, and simply include the character as more of a cameo.
