Chris Hemsworth’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday Rumored To Be Even Bigger Than We Thought

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor might have a bigger role in Avengers: Doomsday than imagined, as a new Marvel Cinematic Universe rumor teases details about what to expect from the God of Thunder. When the Avengers: Doomsday cast was announced, Hemsworth’s name was the first revealed. As one of the only two original Avengers cast members confirmed for the film, it made sense.

However, Thor is a hero who is not directly connected to the many teams that will appear in the MCU’s next Avengers movie. The Thunderbolts have become the New Avengers, Sam Wilson’s Avengers team is still a mystery, and the other superhero teams are Fox’s original X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the Wakandans. That said, wherever he lands, Thor will be important.

On The Town with Matthew Belloni, the Hollywood insider revealed that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will be crucial to Avengers: Doomsday. According to Belloni, Hemsworth is the second lead of the Avengers movie. The first, of course, is Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who is the main villain of both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Check out the full quote below:

“From everything I’ve heard on Avengers: Doomsday, the second lead is [Chris] Hemsworth. He’s got a major role.”

What The Avengers: Doomsday Chris Hemsworth Rumor Means

Thor Is Finally Becoming The Avengers Movies’ Main Hero

If the Avengers: Doomsday Thor rumor turns out to be accurate, then Hemsworth’s role will be bigger than expected. While the actor being in the Avengers movie always meant that Thor would be important, the fact that he is seemingly Avengers: Doomsday‘s second lead when characters like Reed Richards, Yelena Belova, and more new MCU heroes are in it is surprising.

That said, Thor is the only returning character from the MCU’s original Avengers for Doomsday, at least so far. As such, it makes sense that Marvel would want to spotlight a hero who has proven himself to be a fan-favorite and a box office draw at a time when multiple MCU releases have struggled in the Multiverse Saga.

With Robert Downey Jr. playing the MCU’s Doctor Doom, having Hemsworth’s Thor go up against him can generate the kind of emotional response such major casting sets up. Avengers: Doomsday should also see Thor reunite with Loki for the first time since Tom Hiddleston’s original character died in Avengers: Endgame. That sets up a significant role for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Our Take On The Avengers: Doomsday Chris Hemsworth Rumor

I’m even more excited for Avengers: Doomsday now that Thor might be the movie’s second lead. Hemsworth’s Thor has so much still to do, and with Downey as Doctor Doom, I’m glad that Marvel is giving fans the chance of seeing two original Avengers stars clash now on different sides. Hopefully, that does not lead to Thor’s death in Avengers: Doomsday.
