One Dune 3 Plot Point Just Got Way More Exciting Because Of A Brilliant Casting Choice

The story of Dune: Part Three was already exciting, but it just got even more so thanks to this brilliant casting choice. While the cast of Dune: Part Three will mostly consist of returning characters from Dune: Part Two, there are a few new characters who will be introduced in the film. Two of these new Dune: Part Three cast members have already been announced, and one is quite shocking.

Dune: Part Three will feature the two children of Paul Atreides, and these characters have already been cast. Leto II will be played by Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, while Ida Brooke will play Ghanima. These two characters are major players in the later Dune stories, and their stories will finally be kicked off in Dune: Part Three.

Interestingly, both of these actors are in their late teens, which doesn’t make sense for Dune: Part Three. Since the upcoming movie is adapting Dune Messiah, Paul’s children should only be babies. However, these characters are around the actors’ ages in Children of Dune, meaning that Dune: Part Three could end up adapting both books.

Jason Momoa Will Be Tasked With Killing His Son’s Onscreen Dad

Duncan Idaho’s Book Story Explained

Despite the character’s death, Jason Momoa will return as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three. In Dune Messiah, Paul is gifted a ghola, which is a reanimated being meant to look like Duncan. However, this ghola is part of a conspiracy designed to dethrone Paul as Emperor, with Duncan being a key part of the plan.

Controlled by the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild, and the Tleilaxu, Duncan Idaho is programmed to kill Paul when he gets the chance. This story is already interesting enough, as it is one of the biggest plot points in Dune Messiah. However, the aforementioned casting news makes the arc even more exciting.

Nakoa-Wolf Momoa is the son of Jason Momoa, meaning that Dune: Part Three will see the father and son act alongside each other. However, it also means that Jason Momoa must play a character who is trying to kill the father of a character played by Momoa’s son.

This will undoubtedly add an extra layer to the performances of Jason and Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, making Dune: Part Three an even more dynamic story. This is an emotionally intensive role for both Momoas, and fans of Dune should be excited to see it in 2026. This factor was most likely considered when casting Leto II, with it highlighting just how much has gone into the casting of each character in Dune: Part Three.
