Taylor Sheridan’s Next Movie Was Originally Going To Star Chris Pratt, But His Replacement Is Just As Good

Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming movie F.A.S.T. was originally set to have Chris Pratt in the lead role, but that effort didn’t pan out for a few key reasons. While Sheridan has found magnificent success with his multiple original series on Paramount+, he first rose to prominence with his films such as Sicario and Hell or High Water.

Sheridan is a prolific screenwriter who made his professional writing debut with Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 crime drama Sicario. His second screenplay, Hell or High Water, earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Because Sheridan has kept himself busy with Yellowstone, its spinoffs, and other dramas like Tulsa King and Landman, he hasn’t written an original film screenplay since 2021’s Those Who Wish Me ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

Taylor Sheridan’s F.A.S.T. Eyed Chris Pratt – So What Happened?

2018 Was A Busy Year For Both Sheridan & Pratt

Sheridan’s next movie, F.A.S.T., is scheduled for release in 2027 and is something he’s been working on for close to a decade. Chris Pratt was originally eyed to star back in 2018, but it’s now Brendon Sklenar, who played Spencer Dutton in 1923, who will lead the movie.

Pratt and Sheridan both had incredibly busy years in 2018, which surely has something to do with why F.A.S.T. was likely placed on the back burner. The film is reportedly about an ex-Marine turned DEA agent who sets up illegal operations to target and neutralize notorious drug dealers.

Now that Pratt has exited his two biggest career franchises (Jurᴀssic World and the MCU), perhaps Sheridan has another screenplay loaded in the chamber waiting for him.

Pratt would’ve been great in a Sheridan-scripted movie, especially since there’s a decent audience overlap with what he’s done recently and Sheridan’s immense body of work. This can be seen more on the TV side of Pratt’s filmography, particularly with his popular franchise The Terminal List, which Pratt also produces.

While a Pratt and Sheridan team-up sounds wildly ideal, Sklenar has demonstrated that he’s a very good actor and proved he can work really well with Sheridan on 1923. Now that Pratt has exited his two biggest career franchises (Jurᴀssic World and the MCU), perhaps Sheridan has another screenplay loaded in the chamber waiting for him.

Brendon Sklenar Is An Exciting Star For Taylor Sheridan’s New Movie

Sklenar Is Due For His First Big Hollywood Movie Role

Sklenar has had some key roles in TV shows such as 1923 and Westworld, but he really hasn’t had his big lead role in a Hollywood movie yet. That is set to change with the 2027 release of F.A.S.T., which will also star Succession alum Juliana Canfield.

While Sheridan has some directorial experience under his belt with Wind River, Those Who Wish Me ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, and various episodes of his multiple TV shows, he will not be directing F.A.S.T. Instead, he’ll be handing the reins to first-time director, long-time cinematographer Ben Richardson, who worked on several of the aforementioned Sheridan projects.

As great as it’s been to watch Sheridan’s shows from the comforts of home, his slick and action-fueled writing style was made for the big screen.

As great as it’s been to watch Sheridan’s shows from the comforts of home, his slick and action-fueled writing style was made for the big screen. F.A.S.T. may not feature Chris Pratt anymore, but all signs point to it being a worthy return for Sheridan into the world of movies.
