Fantastic Four Cast React To X-Men Actor Dropping Avengers: Doomsday Fight Scene Spoilers

Alan Cumming addresses his previous Avengers: Doomsday comments with his new Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast kicking off Phase 6, the end of The Multiverse Saga is approaching, as there are a handful of films and TV shows set to close out this chapter of the MCU after the debut of Marvel’s First Family.

One of the biggest movies in Phase 6 that is currently undergoing principal pH๏τography is Avengers: Doomsday, with multiple major MCU stars lined up for the 2026 installment. Several X-Men cast members from the Fox-Marvel era are also joining the Avengers: Doomsday cast, making this one of the biggest Marvel crossovers of all time.

Having played the character previously in X2, Cumming’s Nightcrawler is set to return for Avengers: Doomsday, alongside the main Fantastic Four heroes. Cumming interviewed Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn ahead of their MCU debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the subject of Marvel spoilers was brought up.

However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast didn’t waste any time in addressing Cumming’s previous comments regarding Avengers: Doomsday. This led to the following exchange with Pascal, Kirby, and Cumming:

Pedro Pascal: Did you get in trouble?

Vanessa Kirby: Did they phone you up?

Alan Cumming: My publicist called me. The wrath of your publicist is not a wrath you want to have. I said a thing about us fighting, but cub’s honor, have you done what I said? Have you been in a fight with me in this film, Pedro?

Pedro Pascal: Alan and I have never had a fight.

Alan Cumming: See? So actually, maybe I got it wrong and the fight was about somebody else and I was double-bluffing you, Marvel people!

The original comments that the MCU stars were referring to were from a BuzzFeed UK interview that Cumming did back on May 7, 2025. In this interview, Cumming made the following statement about his return as Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday:

Alan Cumming: Oh yeah, oh, lots. Well, especially right now, because I’m doing it again: the X-Men film, like I’m playing Nightcrawler again now. I was just working with these… I’ve been learning stunts yesterday for some fight scene and I just think, ‘I’m 60 years old. 23 years ago, I played that superhero. I was kind of old for a superhero even then and now I’m back doing it.’ And I just… that, to me, is hilarious. And I’m sort of learning these fights, I’m like, ‘What? Who am I fighting with?’

They said, ‘You’re fight– you’re hitting Pedro Pascal against the head or something. It’s just that I can’t quite believe– especially ’cause it was such a long time ago, but actually that’s quite a nice thing I think is about life and about as you get older, that things come back. They always do and people come back and it’s actually a really nice thing about getting older.

What Alan Cumming’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments Means

Cumming’s clarification makes it clear that his original comments may have been blown out of proportion, as he could have offhandedly just used Pascal’s Reed Richards in Avengers: Doomsday as an example. There have been many instances with the MCU where various actors’ statements have been misunderstood or taken out of context.

Whether or not there will be clashes between the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be shocking if there are some misunderstandings between all the teams when they first come together in Avengers: Doomsday. As such, it’s still possible that Cumming’s previous statement reflects part of the film, as conflict between the heroes seem possible.

Avengers Doomsday тιтle treatment

Whether Cumming’s original comments end up reflecting part of the movie or are simply intended to keep viewers on their toes, the audience will eventually learn what battles are in the MCU hero teams’ respective futures with the release of Avengers: Doomsday. It’s still impressive how much Marvel Studios has been able to keep about Avengers: Doomsday under wraps.

Nevertheless, it will still be fascinating to see Avengers: Doomsday bringing the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four together in the same film, as they get ready to tackle Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Hopefully, more details about Avengers: Doomsday will start to emerge as they get further into production.
