Jude Law’s Star Wars Character Could Return – But Not How You’d Expect

A new Star Wars theory predicts redemption for Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood, a standout from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, Skeleton Crew was a delightful departure from the norm for Star Wars. It starred Jude Law as rogue Force-sensitive pirate Jod Na Nawood, alongside a tremendous young cast.

Sadly, as good as Skeleton Crew may have been, Lucasfilm will struggle to pull off a second season. The younger members of the show’s cast are aging, while Ryan Keira Armstrong is the new Buffy star, meaning she’ll have other commitments. Still, there have been recent rumors that Law could return alone – and we think we’ve figured out how…

Jod Na Nawood Is A Prisoner Of The New Republic

The Pirate Was Captured At At Attin

Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood was a tremendous character, not least because you genuinely didn’t know whether he’d be redeemed in the end. The Force-sensitive pirate – who’d been trained by a Jedi who survived Order 66 – was fond of the kids he’d picked up, but his greed ultimately won out. There was no redemption for Jod.

Instead, Jod Na Nawood wound up captured by the New Republic when the heist of At Attin – the last Old Republic mint – went catastrophically wrong for him. He’d underestimated those same kids, and they got out a mayday against all the odds, bringing the wrath of the New Republic down upon Jod.

The New Republic Is Up Against The Empire – & Pirates

Skeleton Crew revealed the scale of the pirate threat, giving viewers a look at the pirate shadowport of Port Borgo. Situated just off the Hydian Way, one of the galaxy’s most prosperous hyperspace lanes, this clearly allows pirate groups to launch attacks on traders, plundering their riches. The New Republic is struggling to protect merchants from these villains.

But even the New Republic do not suspect the true scale of the problem. In The Mandalorian season 3, we saw that there’s a good relationship between the galaxy’s pirates and the Imperial Remnants; there were even hints that some members of the Imperial Shadow Council, coordinating Imperial activity, were actually running pirate raids themselves.

The New Republic is about to take the fight to the Empire. The Mandalorian season 3 ended with Din Djarin becoming a bounty hunter once again, but now working only for the New Republic – and hunting down the Imperial Remnant. That story will continue in The Mandalorian & Grogu, and it’s likely to run on through Ahsoka season 2 and beyond.

And that inevitably means the New Republic will have to take on the pirates too.

Will Jod Na Nawood Be The Key To Defeating The Pirates?

Set A Thief To Catch A Thief

Port Borgo Fuel Lines in Skeleton Crew

This is where Jod Na Nawood could come in. The character is a selfish one, motivated only by self-interest, and it’s very easy to imagine a scenario where he decided to betray his pirate friends if it would result in reduced jail-time. As the old saying goes, “Set a thief to catch a thief.

This could even potentially result in that much-discussed redemption arc for Jod, as he finds himself working on the side of the angels at last.

The battle against the Empire will surely take place in the shadows of the galaxy; that would explain why established Star Wars history records this as a time of peace. If you’re going to wage war in the shadows, you need people who know how to navigate them, including pirates and scoundrels like Skeleton Crew‘s Jod Na Nawood.
