Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning VOD & Blu-Ray Release Dates Revealed

The digital release date for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has been revealed. Originally released over Memorial Day Weekend, this movie is the eighth in the Mission: Impossible franchise. As of now, it is expected to mark the end of at least Ethan Hunt’s arc in the franchise.

The Final Reckoning has had a solid box office performance since its initial May release. After a domestic opening of $64 million, the film has now made $195.8 million domestically. Overall, it has amᴀssed $588.8 million globally.

Now, according to Paramount, the digital release date for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will become available to purchase digitally starting on August 19. With this digital purchase comes access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content, including director’s commentary and deleted footage.

The VOD release will be followed by Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning‘s 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD release on October 14. These versions will likely contain similar bonus content, but the specifics of such content for the digital release are retailer-dependent.

What This Means For The Final Reckoning

The Movie Still Has Some Time In The Theaters

With this digital release date, Paramount will have given the Mission: Impossible film a generous window of theatrical exclusivity. The release announcing the digital release date advertises that the film is still available to watch in theaters. While it is in far fewer screens than previously, The Final Reckoning can be watched on the big screen in select locations.

For the most part, this strategy has paid off for The Final Reckoning. The film has done better than ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Reckoning, which made $571.1 million during its entire run. Mission: Impossible 8 is still not nearly the highest-grossing movie in the franchise, but its showing is nonetheless respectable.

Even now, there is almost a whole additional month before The Final Reckoning becomes digitally available. This will give the movie time to hit potential additional milestones in its final weeks. The most in-range box office win would be crossing the $200 million threshold domestically, as it is less than $5 million away from doing so.

Our Take On The Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning VOD Release Date

The Film Needs Significant VOD Sales

While Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning had a respectable box office, it still has a long way to go before it will be considered profitable. The movie’s budget is estimated to be somewhere in the ballpark of $400 million, making its $588.8 million haul not nearly enough.

The VOD sales are the last chance that this Tom Cruise movie really has to make its money back. Though these films are iconic theatrical experiences, The Final Reckoning could also have a pull among franchise audiences who want to rewatch the film at home. Hopefully, it can manage significant sales to help put a further dent in recouping its mᴀssive budget.
