A Surprising Character’s Fate In I Know What You Did Last Summer Is Totally Confusing

One of the killers in I Know What You Did Last Summer seemingly survived the intense events of the slasher movie. The new film is the long-awaited legacy sequel to the original I Know What You Did Last Summer movies, which primarily followed Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Ray.

Hewitt and Prinze Jr. still have important roles in the legacy sequel, but it mainly follows a new set of characters. One of these characters, Stevie, is revealed to be the killer at the end of I Know What You Did Last Summer, but she wasn’t working alone. In a shocking twist, it is revealed that Ray is also a killer in I Know What You Did Last Summer.

This has proven to be controversial, since Ray was such a beloved character in the original films. However, in the movie, it makes sense since Ray and Stevie work at the bar together and have a close bond. After he is revealed to be the villain, Ray gets killed by Julie and Ava, but Stevie seemingly survives the ending of I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is somewhat confusing.

I Know What You Did Last Summer’s Ending States Stevie Is Still Alive

Even Though She Was SH๏τ In The Head

During the climax of I Know What You Did Last Summer, Ava, Danica, and Stevie sail away from Southport together to escape the Fisherman. However, while they are on the boat, it is revealed that Stevie is actually the one who has been hunting the other characters all along. At the end of the film, Stevie explains that she started killing because all the other characters, who were supposed to be her closest friends, abandoned her.

During the confrontation between the three friends, Ray catches up to the boat and boards. After Stevie tries to kill Danica, Ray shoots her in the head, seemingly killing her. After being sH๏τ, Stevie stumbles backwards and falls off the boat. However, Danica still gets stabbed during this scene and also falls overboard, which leads Ava to believe her best friend has died.

Ray is the one who gave Stevie the idea of dressing up in the fisherman outfit and murdering her friends.

After this intense scene, Ava and Ray return to Southport and go to the latter’s bar. At this point, both Ava and Julie realize that Ray was working with Stevie all along. In fact, Ray is the one who gave Stevie the idea of dressing up in the fisherman outfit and murdering her friends. While talking with Ava in the bar, Ray reveals that Stevie is not actually ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

At the end of the film, Ava fights for her life against Ray and Julie rushes back to Southport. Eventually, the two of them team up to kill Ray. However, based on a couple more key moments at the end of the movie, it doesn’t seem like Ray was lying about Stevie still being alive.

Firstly, when Ava and Danica get out of the hospital, they talk about how Stevie is still out there somewhere. Before the film cuts to credits, Ava and Danica humorously discuss what they should do about Stevie, concluding that they’ll probably have to kill her. This conversation potentially sets up a sequel to the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie.

Then, during the post-credits scene of I Know What You Did Last Summer, Julie visits Karla, her old college roommate, and reveals that she’s receiving notes. More than likely, this note is from Stevie, who will likely want revenge for the death of Ray. Therefore, even though Stevie was sH๏τ in the head, it seems like she is still alive and well.

How Stevie Could Be Alive After I Know What You Did Last Summer?

Will Stevie Return In A Sequel?

After being sH๏τ in the head and falling from the boat, it is shocking to learn that Stevie is still alive at the end of I Know What You Did Last Summer. However, since she and Ray were working together, it makes sense that he wouldn’t want to actually kill her. More than likely, Ray was firing blanks during the boat scene at the end of the movie.

This was probably something that Ray and Stevie planned in advance to trick Ava and Danica into thinking the Fisherman had been killed. While the gun Ray was using was definitely real, he probably didn’t fire any actual bullets, which means Stevie simply threw herself overboard.

After this scene, Stevie likely swam back to shore and lived on to haunt characters like Ava, Danica, and Julie. However, if this is the case, the ending of I Know What You Did Last Summer has a plot hole. Since Stevie survived the boat scene, it doesn’t make sense that she didn’t return to help Ray at the end of the movie.

Stevie easily could have showed up at the bar to kill Ava and Julie and possibly save Ray, but this doesn’t happen. This is a plot hole that a sequel to the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie should address, since it is kind of confusing. Based on all the evidence at the end of the slasher film, it seems like Stevie will definitely return in the next I Know What You Did Last Summer movie.
