The likes of Supergirl, releasing in 2026, will see the DCU be fleshed out even further, as will other installments of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Two characters that many are hoping will be beneficiaries of this are Batman and Wonder Woman, the two other central pillars of DC Comics besides Superman.

However, given the fact that neither character has received a concrete update regarding when they will appear in the DCU thus far, some have raised a specific worry about the DC heroes. Superman‘s Easter eggs to Batman, Wonder Woman, and other centuries-old Metahumans aside, there are no clear answers as to when they will be officially introduced to the franchise.

The DCU’s inception saw two projects announced that link inherently to Batman and Wonder Woman: The Brave and the Bold and Paradise Lost, respectively. The former was announced as a movie centered around Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, fighting crime in Gotham, while the latter was a Game of Thrones-style TV show about Wonder Woman’s home island of Themyscira.

Since their announcement, though, updates have been few and far between. This has caused some fans to worry that Batman and Wonder Woman will be introduced too late into the DCU. After all, their centrality in DC Comics has led many to believe they should be important to the DCU’s inception as Superman. Despite the validity of these worries, DC Studios chief James Gunn may have recently eased them. In an interview with Rolling Stone concerning Superman spoilers and the future of the franchise, Gunn was asked about Batman and Wonder Woman. Specifically, Gunn was quizzed on recent reports claiming DC Studios was “fast-tracking” a Wonder Woman movie.

Gunn replied that he is not entirely sure what the reports meant about fast-tracking, as “I’ve always had Wonder Woman as a priority.” Gunn went on to say that now that the DCU’s future is more solid in terms of what has been green-lit and what hasn’t, “we [DC Studios] really need Wonder Woman and we really need Batman, because they’re so important to us.”

Gunn indicated that the importance of Batman and Wonder Woman is felt throughout the studio:

“It’s become a little bit more like going to everybody at DC and being like, we need to figure this out. We have good writers on Wonder Woman, and we just have to make sure it’s working, and they have to not be somebody who’s gonna take two years to write a script.”

Thankfully, these comments from Gunn ease the aforementioned worries about these two important DC characters. Batman and Wonder Woman remain priorities in Gunn’s mind, with the filmmaker making sure others involved in the wider planning of the DC Universe know that too.

Specifically, Gunn’s comment that they need to find people who aren’t going to take two years to write a script is refreshing. This goes even further in alleviating fan worries that both characters will be introduced too late, as a quick turnaround in script-writing is important to Gunn. Hopefully, this means Batman and Wonder Woman are introduced to the DCU much sooner rather than later.

The final way the DC Universe can ease fan worries about Batman and Wonder Woman is via other stories. DC’s Paradise Lost TV show is one perfect example of how the franchise could do this. Paradise Lost, despite being confirmed as a show set on the island of Themyscira, was confirmed as more of a prequel to the DCU’s Wonder Woman, exploring the Amazons as a whole first.

This would allow the DCU to introduce a Wonder Woman-adjacent story that actively teases Diana Prince’s introduction before her own movie. On the Batman side of things, the DCU can do the same. 2026 will see DC’s Clayface movie be released. Although Clayface is expected to be a standalone horror movie, it will undoubtedly have wider connections to Gotham and Batman.

Through projects such as these, heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman can be established as heroes in the DC Universe, even before their first official appearances. If the Batman and Wonder Woman solo movies take a few years to be green-lit, produced, and released, these other projects can still ensure that they feel like part of the universe.

This confirmed Batman’s activity in the DCU, without ruining surprises like casting and costume choices that will be revealed in the hero’s solo film.
