The Amateur tells the story of Rami Malek’s Charles Heller, a decoder for the CIA. Despite his brilliance, he normally stays behind a desk. However, this all changes when Charles’ wife is killed in a terrorist attack in London.
Charles realizes that there is much more to the terrorist attack than it seems, with him attempting to get his supervisors to take action. When this fails, he decides that he must go out into the field himself to avenge his wife. Despite his lack of familiarity with weapons, Charles decides to use his intelligence to best the criminals who were behind his wife’s death.
