8 Years Later, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Needs To Use One Of The World’s Most Terrifying Creatures

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova has the opportunity to give Monsterverse fans a real big-screen introduction to perhaps the most terrifying original тιтan, a full eight years after it made its first appearance. Set to release in March 2027, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova will be the sixth movie in the interconnected Legendary Monsterverse, and the third that sees Godzilla and Kong share a screen.

However, the intrigue is no longer surrounding the planet’s two most famous тιтans. While Monsterverse fans are always interested in seeing how Godzilla and Kong will power up in order to take on the latest threat, the more interesting speculation and theorizing is related to the other тιтans that will appear in the movie.

The most popular theory for GxK: Supernova deals with the arrival of SpaceGodzilla as the movie’s big bad, but it’s now become the standard for several different major тιтans to make appearances in each movie. A common complaint about the last few Monsterverse movies has been the lack of follow-up on the global map of original тιтans that was seen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

We’ve seen several of the planet’s more famous тιтans since then, but ever so briefly. Tiamat and Scylla, for example, met their ends at Godzilla’s claws in the early stages of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. It’s time for one of the Monsterverse’s most terrifying тιтans to make an appearance, and Godzilla X Kong: Supernova is the perfect opportunity.

Why Abaddon Should Appear In Godzilla X Kong: Supernova

The Ultra-Fast, Ultra-Destructive тιтan Is A Perfect Minor Antagonist

Monarch breaks the тιтans of Earth out into two main classifications: Protectors and Destroyers. One of the most antagonistic Destroyers is undoubtedly the mᴀssive spider тιтan named Abaddon. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Abaddon broke free from Outpost 77 at Devil’s Tower, Wyoming when Ghidorah’s call stirred all the planet’s тιтans to destruction.

Abaddon is positively terrifying to look at, as its cephalothorax (where its head attaches to its body) is shaped like a human skull, and it houses a set of grotesque animalistic jaws and fangs underneath eight pale eyes. Its profile in the canon companion graphic novel Monsterverse Declassified indicates that it’s a “fossorial” creature, meaning it tunnels underground and can stay dormant for centuries.

The word abaddon translated from Hebrew means “destruction” or “doom”, and the Biblical character Abaddon has ᴀssociations with fallen angels, destruction, and the realm of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

What makes Abaddon particularly frightening is its animosity towards humans. Humans are reportedly its favorite prey, and Bernie Hayes theorized that Abaddon, who is likely the progenitor of all spiders on Earth, is able to possess people using spiders, which it controls via a hive mind.

Abaddon would actually be a great fit for Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, but not as the main villain. The Supernova subтιтle definitely points towards a cosmic primary villain, whether it’s a Toho classic like SpaceGodzilla or an original Legendary тιтan. However, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever go back to just one villainous тιтan after breaking the tag-team battle seal with Skar King and Shimo.

Abaddon could be the тιтan that takes her out of the larger-scale conflict, making the final battle of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova that much harder for Godzilla and Kong.

Abaddon would make the perfect Earth- (or Hollow Earth-) based тιтan to supplement the cosmic attacker. As a giant spider, Abaddon makes for a particularly interesting foil for Mothra; Abaddon could be the тιтan that takes her out of the larger-scale conflict, making the final battle of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova that much harder for Godzilla and Kong.
