Wes Anderson’s New Comedy Movie With 78% RT Score Gets Streaming Release Date

A new Wes Anderson comedy will soon be available on streaming. The celebrated director of The Royal Tenenbaums and The Grand Budapest H๏τel is known for employing memorable color palettes and production designs and for incorporating unique humor into his narratives.

Anderson’s film slate, including Moonrise Kingdom and Isle of Dogs, has garnered him a devoted following and several Academy Award nominations. His movies have largely received praise, and some, notably The Grand Budapest H๏τel, have also been commercial hits.

Since debuting, Anderson has accumulated impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes, highlighted by Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom, both at 93%. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a short film starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes, presently stands at 95% and marks the highest-scoring Tomatometer for Anderson.

The Phoenician Scheme Gets A Streaming Release Date

The Anderson Comedy Is Coming To Peacock

The most recent movie from Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme, premiered in May and continues his trend of favorably received projects. The comedy film tracks Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro), who, accompanied by his daughter, Sister Liesl (Mia Threapleton), goes on an adventure concerning his new and ambitious business operation.

Along with del Toro, who collaborated with Wes Anderson on The French Dispatch, the cast of The Phoenician Scheme features Michael Cera, Rupert Friend, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Willem Dafoe, and more. Upon release, the movie earned a Tomatometer score of 78%, while the audience-based Popcornmeter also remains fresh at 70%.

According to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, The Phoenician Scheme will have a home on streaming soon, becoming available to watch on Peacock on July 25.

What This Means For The Phoenician Scheme

Will More People Check It Out?

The Phoenician Scheme only managed to generate around $37.5 million at the box office. That number is considerably smaller than Asteroid City, another ensemble-led comedy by Anderson that premiered two years ago and earned over $53 million. However, The Phoenician Scheme holds higher Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

Asteroid City has a 76% Tomatometer score, while its Popcornmeter is at 62%.

Despite a largely positive reception, The Phoenician Scheme is among Anderson’s lowest-performing theatrical releases, behind The French Dispatch and only ahead of some earlier projects, including The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Darjeeling Limited. Because moviegoing has changed in recent years, fans of Anderson may have sought out The Phoenician Scheme, while general audiences decided to bypᴀss it.

Now that The Phoenician Scheme will be made available on streaming, more viewers can check it out from the comfort of their homes. We are looking forward to seeing how successful the movie will be on Peacock, and if it can expand its audience to make up for a lackluster box office.
