James Gunn Addresses Wonder Woman & Batman’s Priority In The DC Universe Post-Superman Release

The DC Universe is working on The Brave and The Bold and Wonder Woman movies, as James Gunn addresses the priority for those films. With Batman and Wonder Woman getting rebooted for the big screen, DC Studios is actively working on the scripts for their respective solo films for Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters.”

While Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 movie is further along than The Brave and The Bold when it comes to development, the DCU’s Dark Knight will be exploring a more established version of Bruce Wayne. In terms of Diana Prince, little has been shared about the DCU’s take on the iconic Themyscira heroine.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn was asked about the rumors of the Wonder Woman movie being fast-tracked, as Gunn made it clear that Diana has always been “a priority” for DC Studios. However, Gunn addressed that they have “good writers on Wonder Woman,” as he shared the following about her film, as well as Batman being crucial for DC Studios, too:

James Gunn: I don’t know what they mean by fast-tracking. [Laughs.] I’ve always had Wonder Woman as a priority. But we got the first few things started, and there’s some other things that are really close to green-lighting — like there’s a television show that I hope that we’re gonna be green-lighting in the next few days. So now a little time has pᴀssed, and we really need Wonder Woman and we really need Batman, because they’re so important to us. And so it’s become a little bit more like going to everybody at DC and being like, we need to figure this out. We have good writers on Wonder Woman and we just have to make sure it’s working and they have to not be somebody who’s gonna take two years to write a script.

One takeaway from Gunn’s comments is also that there is a television show that he hopes “we’re gonna be green-lighting in the next few days.” However, Gunn didn’t specify in the interview what DC character the TV show would be focusing on.

What James Gunn’s Batman & Wonder Woman Updates Mean

While reports have suggested that DC Studios is fast-tracking Wonder Woman, Gunn’s comments make it clear that not every piece of information that is out there regarding DCU projects is always correct. Even though Wonder Woman’s film, along with The Brave and The Bold movie, are some of DC Studios’ biggest projects for the DCU, it doesn’t mean they will get rushed simply because Superman is performing well.

What is coming through from Gunn’s latest Batman and Wonder Woman updates is that they definitely don’t want the audience to have to wait too long. However, that won’t distract DC Studios from making sure the quality of the scripts is at their absolute best, as they go forward with casting and filming until the screenplays are finalized.

Hearing Gunn having Batman and Wonder Woman as big priorities for the DCU, without rushing their respective movie scripts, is mᴀssively appreciated, as these iconic heroes do not need to go through the same chaotic process that the DCEU suffered from. Given how the DCEU movie timeline would rush films into production, that was their ultimate downfall in the end.

It’s also exciting to hear that the Wonder Woman movie has multiple writers, although it’s unclear who they are as of right now. Hopefully, more details on the creative process for The Brave and The Bold and Wonder Woman will arrive before 2025 is over.
