KPop Demon Hunters Retakes Top Spot On Netflix Chart Again After Losing To Tyler Perry’s 15% Sequel

KPop Demon Hunters has risen back to the top of a major streaming chart. The Netflix hit is an animated fantasy musical about a KPop girl group, Huntr/x, who moonlight as demon hunters and face off against the demonic boy band Saja Boys. The KPop Demon Hunters cast includes Arden Cho, Daniel Dae Kim, Lee Byung-hun, and Ken Jeong.

The movie, which is on track to have Netflix’s most-watched animated feature launch in history, was previously toppled from its position at No. 1 on the platform’s daily Top 10 movies chart in the U.S. by the Tyler Perry sequel Madea’s Destination Wedding, which is performing well in spite of its dismal 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, per Netflix‘s latest daily chart, KPop Demon Hunters is back on top in the United States. On July 18, it pushed Madea’s Destination Wedding down to No. 2, climbing back up to its perch at No. 1 and maintaining that position through July 19 as well.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters

Its Status As A Hit Is Secure

It makes sense why KPop Demon Hunters is continuing to tear up the chart. While new Netflix movies frequently have high viewership on the platform, which is one reason that Madea’s Destination Wedding had a surge in viewership, the animated movie is showing signs of true longevity.

One reason it is performing so well is that it has won over critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, KPop Demon Hunters has a Certified Fresh 96% Tomatometer score aggregated from 52 different critics’ reviews and a similarly glowing 91% Popcornmeter score from more than 2,500 user reviews, which have an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.

One of the critics who was aggregated for the Tomatometer score was ScreenRant‘s own Ben Gibbons, who gave it a score of 9 out of 10. Read an excerpt from his KPop Demon Hunters review below:

KPop Demon Hunters is not just for fans of anime, nor is it just for kids. It’s an incredible adventure filled with humor, emotion, and stunning music. KPop Demon Hunters is a phenomenal family film with heart, pᴀssion, and a fast-paced plot that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, regardless of age.

Given its critical and commercial performance, as well as the fact that the ending of KPop Demon Hunters sets up a sequel, it seems entirely likely that Netflix will soon have a new homegrown franchise on their hands, though no follow-ups have been officially greenlit just yet.

Our Take On KPop Demon Hunters’ Netflix Performance

It’s A Huge Win For Original Movies

Not only could the movie become a record-breaking hit, it is cementing itself as a major phenomenon. In addition to the movie’s viewership, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack has broken multiple records. In fact, it has succeeded to the extent that, at the time of writing, the Billboard H๏τ 100 contains four Huntr/x songs and two Saja Boys songs.

The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack is the highest-debuting soundtrack release of 2025 so far and Huntr/x has beaten Blackpink to become the highest-charting female KPop group on the Spotify daily chart in the United States.

The fact that this level of success is occurring for an entirely original movie is another feather in the cap of KPop Demon Hunters, which arrived amid a slew of summer franchise movies hitting theaters, such as Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, Superman, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Lilo & Sтιтch, How to Train Your Dragon, and more.
