Mortal Kombat 2 Has A Radical Redesign Of One Fan-Favorite Fighter

Fans have finally gotten their first look at Jade in Mortal Kombat II. Jade is one of many new characters in Mortal Kombat II, which will see warriors from Earthrealm and Outworld compete against each other in a high-stakes tournament. In addition to Jade, the sequel will also introduce characters like Shao Kahn, Kitana, Sindel, Baraka, and Quan Chi.

If the movie follows the story of the games, then Jade and Kitana will be lifelong best friends. Even though they can be seen fighting in the trailer for Mortal Kombat II, it appears to be a friendly contest. In the games, Jade and Kitana are both from the realm of Edenia, but tragedy strikes when Shao Kahn invades their home.

After his invasion, Shao Kahn takes Sindel as his wife, adopts Kitana, and enlists Jade to be her personal bodyguard. This is why Jade, Kitana, and Sindel will be seen fighting for Outworld in Mortal Kombat II. The inclusion of these characters is exciting, but Jade looks quite different in Mortal Kombat II compared to the video games.

Jade’s Appearance In Mortal Kombat 2 & How It Compares To The Games

Jade Is Shown Several Times In The New Mortal Kombat 2 Trailer

In Mortal Kombat II, Jade will be played by Tati Gabrielle, who has previously starred in Uncharted, The Last of Us, You, and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. In her previous roles, Gabrielle has proven that she has great screen presence, so it will be exciting to see her as Jade in Mortal Kombat II.

However, the trailer for the highly anticipated sequel confirms that Jade will look different from how she typically does in the games. When she first debuted in 1993’s Mortal Kombat II, she basically looked like a green version of Kitana with slightly darker skin. However, over the years, Jade has received her own signature look.

In all the Mortal Kombat games, Jade has worn a bright green costume that usually includes a mask which covers her face. In many of the recent games, her costume has also had golden accents. Based on the footage of Jade in the trailer for Mortal Kombat II, she will have a green costume with gold accents, but the colors appear to be much more muted, which is not uncommon for the movie franchise.

Jade also doesn’t wear a mask in the upcoming movie, which allows Gabrielle’s full face to be visible. Not wearing a mask will make it easier for Gabrielle to portray emotions as Jade. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Jade has a shaved head in Mortal Kombat II, which is not the case in any of the video games. Usually, Jade has very long hair, and often even wears it in a ponytail.

In all her other roles, Gabrielle typically has a shaved head, or at least very short hair. Therefore, the creative team behind the sequel obviously didn’t have a problem with her keeping it that way. Overall, while there are some major changes to Jade’s appearance from the video games, I’m excited to see Gabrielle’s take on the character in Mortal Kombat II.
